You may have wondered about it before, or perhaps you haven't even considered using bold or italic text in your WhatsApp conversations . Either way, we're here to answer this question by explaining how to use text formatting changes (bold, italic, or bold) in your chats with your contacts on this popular messaging platform.

How to put bold, italics and strikethrough in WhatsApp

Using these different formatting options in your texts is as simple as you can see in the video above—if you haven't played it yet, hit play—but we'll also explain it step by step below. This writing option has been available for quite some time in both the iOS and Android versions of the app, allowing users to write in italics, bold, or strikethrough.

To make text bold :

  1. Start typing the text as usual until you reach the word (or words) you want to make bold.
  2. Before writing it you must write the asterisk symbol (*).
  3. Write below what you want to indicate in bold format.
  4. Finished, type the asterisk symbol (*) again to close it.

To make text italic :

  1. Type whatever text you want until you reach the word (or words) you want to italicize.
  2. Before writing it you must put the underscore symbol (_).
  3. Write below what you want to put in italics.
  4. Done retypes the underscore (_) symbol to close.

To use strikethrough :

  1. Write the text you want until you reach the word (or words) you want to cross out.
  2. Before writing it, write the tilde symbol (∼).
  3. Write below what you want to have written with strikethrough.
  4. Finished, write the tilde symbol (∼) again.

And that's it! You now have all the details you need to make the necessary changes to your texts. Remember that you can also enrich your conversations with emojis and the new stickers that everyone's hooked on.
