What is audio equalization
Every sound is represented in a frequency table with two values: decibels (dB) and Hertz (Hz). Depending on the equalizer options, a lower or higher number of frequencies can be modified, which will affect the audio curve. The normal thing is to be able to play from 32 Hz to 16 kHz, and each of these bars will affect a type of sound: low, medium and high.
When you raise or lower one of those bars what you are doing is modify the intensity of said frequency. If you go up it will have more presence and if you go down it will be "eliminated". Both one action and another must be carried out with caution. Your phone and headphones will have minimum and maximum values capable of representing: if you go too far, the sound will be poor or it will generate an annoying distortion.
Therefore, when equalizing you must take into account different aspects. The first is to know the device well to know how far you can lower or raise each frequency without reaching distortion. The second, knowing the headphones you are going to use. They don't all sound the same, and they may already come standard very "colored" in low frequencies, or very bright for highs. Finally, each gender is equalized differently. An equalization for classical or rock music is not the same.
With all this and knowing that it is still something very personal, you will have to do it according to your tastes. By the way, always equalize with music that you know well, so you will know if you are masking any frequency or giving it more prominence than it should have.
How to equalize on Android and iOS
The equalize option is not available on all mobile phones. In Android, most layers do offer options, they are usually in the Sound> Equalize section. In iOS too, so that within Settings> Music> EQ you can choose between different modes, as in Android, or play each band.
What happens if you don't have equalization options? Well, you will have to resort to third-party applications that do add them. Three good applications for this are:
