If you're a Flickr user , you probably already know that starting tomorrow, the platform will begin deleting all older images that exceed a certain age limit. The service, of course, announced this some time ago, but in case you're unaware, we're reminding you today and, while we're at it, going over how to save your photos.
How to Download All Your Flickr Photos
Starting tomorrow, Flickr will introduce changes that will directly affect you . These modifications concern the storage capacity of free accounts, which will be reduced to the detriment of the user.
The platform announced this change in early November of last year, stating that starting February 5, 2019, free accounts would be limited to 1.000 photos or videos , with anything exceeding this limit being deleted. This change came months after the company was acquired by SmugMug , a paid image hosting service that believes this measure will encourage more people to upgrade to a Flickr Pro account , which costs €4,49 per month.
We don't know if the move will work out or not, but if you're one of those who can't (or don't want to) pay for this service, want to keep the free account, and have more than 1.000 photos in your account, you need to act right now , because starting tomorrow, the oldest items in your account will be deleted , as warned by an alert message that you'll have seen every time you log in to Flickr - below these lines.
These are the steps to follow to download all your Flickr photos and make sure you don't lose anything:
Using the Camera Roll
- Enter your Flickr account and in the “You” drop-down menu, click on “Photo reel«.
- Click on “Select all” and each group of photos ordered by date until you select about 500 images.
- In the lower area, to the right of all executable options, click "Download".
- Click on the blue button «Create zip file«.
- When the service has your photos ready, a notification will appear on the bell icon (next to your profile picture). It will be the arrival of a FlickrMail with a download link. Access it and click on the blue “Download zip file” button to have your photos on your PC.
Using the Albums
- Enter your Flickr account and in the “You” drop-down menu, click on “Álbumes«.
- Mouse over an album (the one you want to download) and click on the download icon - the one with the down arrow.
- A message will appear. Click on the blue button «Create zip file«.
- When the service has your album with your photos ready, a notification will appear on the bell icon (next to your profile picture). It will be the arrival of a FlickrMail with a download link. Access it and click on the blue “Download zip file” button to have all the photos from the selected album on your PC.
Depending on the number of images and their size (resolution), the process of creating the downloadable files will take more or less time. Don't despair and be patient, but don't delay any longer and do it now.
