Taking into account how greedy they can be fortnite accounts (some have a large number of accessories and aesthetic complements that more than one would dream of having) we must be very careful when it comes to protecting ours. Many hackers often carry out attacks to gain control of accounts and resell them, and it is common for databases with stolen credentials to be used in services that have been compromised, so if you share email and password with any other service, you'd better keep reading and take appropriate action.
The key is to use the multi-factor authentication (also known as two step authentication). It is a method used in many other services that is responsible for adding an additional security step on another device to ensure the service that it is truly us who are accessing the account. If you do not have the device (which is usually always our phone), it will not be possible to log in.
Enabling two-factor authentication on your Epic Games account
Activating this security measure is quite simple, and it will also make use of various authenticator applications that many users use. These applications are responsible for generating random codes that will be used to log into the service, so they are the perfect tool to carry a security key on your mobile. The steps to perform are the following:
- Log in with your Epic Games account and go to the password and security section. You can access directly by clicking on the following link:
- In this section there will be two authentication methods to choose from, by application or by email. The second is easier, although perhaps more vulnerable (especially if you use the same password as your Epic Games account), so we recommend choosing the first option, which is what we continue to explain below.
- The first thing the service will do is send you a validation email to confirm that you are making these changes. You will only have to confirm your presence by clicking on the link that you will receive in the email.
- Once your account is confirmed, we will go to bind an authenticator app. The screen will show us a QR code that we must enter in the authentication app that we use, so if you still do not have one, it is time to download it. There are many on the market, but we recommend that you use some such as Google Authenticator, LastPass, Authy or Microfot Authenticator, since they are the best known and used. In our case we use the Google Authenticator, which also manages the security of the Google account itself.
- To do this, we must enter the Google Authenticator application on our mobile and click on the + symbol. This will allow us to link an additional service to which we want to offer the ability to generate random access codes. We will be asked to enter a link code, and it will be there when we scan the unit’s QR code that is presented to us in the configuration menu of the Epic Games website.
- When we have entered it, we will receive our first random code, a code that we must enter in the text box that awaits us on the Epic Games website and with which we will finish the entire configuration process.
- The service will also offer us the possibility of print security codes for times when we do not have our phone. Imagine that you are trying to log into your Epic Games account and your battery is dead or you don't have your phone with you. How will you be able to log in? These generated codes will be your salvation. Of course, keep them very safe because they will be the master key with which to enter your account (you can always generate new codes to cancel the previous ones).
From now on, every time we log in, we will have to once again confirm the account with the code that will be generated in the application you have configured, so it will be quite difficult for someone to break into your account without your permission.
But be careful, if to enter your Epic Games account you use the credentials of other services such as PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo, Facebook or Google, you must take into account two-step authentication must be enabled in said services , since in this way we will automatically enter the Epic account without any additional step.
