Now that Netflix is about to raise its monthly fee, you've probably thought it's time to stop giving away access to your profile as a way of showing solidarity. Sharing access to your Netflix account is a common practice among users; it lowers the monthly fee, so everyone benefits. But what if someone has access to your account and you don't know it?
Control who is accessing your Netflix account
There are many possible scenarios. Perhaps you once shared your login details with someone and now you'd prefer they didn't have them, or maybe you offered to use your login credentials at a friend's house to access the catalog, but mistakenly didn't log out. Whatever the reason, someone has access to Netflix with your credentials, and you're the one paying the monthly fee. Want to stop this? Don't worry, here's the solution.
- The first thing you will have to do is enter the control Panel from your Netflix profile.
- To do this, go to the official website, log in and click on the section "Account” from the drop-down menu.
- Once inside, look for the section “Recent device streaming activity”. Here you can see the different IPs that are requesting content from Netflix through your user account. You will have details such as the IP address and the type of device (Browser, iPad, Apple TV...), so you will be able to identify if there is any suspicious behavior with accesses that do not correspond to the provinces that you have controlled.
- If you have noticed something strange or you prefer to stay calm, it is time to reset. In section "log out of all devices” you can force the session closure in all those devices that have stored your password. To access Netflix again you will have to enter the password again.
- If you suspect the other person is keeping your password, you'd better change it in the control panel and sign out again on all devices. Thus, the next time they try to access they must enter the new password that you have configured. And now yes, you can share it with whoever you really want.
And what about Spotify?
If you have the same problems with the music service, you can do exactly the same as on Netflix:
- Enter your account from the Spotify website.
- Check if there are any offline device that may be using your data offline.
- Close the session on all devices by clicking on the button “Log out everywhere” inside section General. Just like with Netflix, all logged in devices will be locked out unless they re-enter their password.
