Now that Super Mario The Movie It has been given away quite a bit for Christmas, Nintendo wanted all Blu-ray owners or those who watch it streaming to be able to enjoy all the secrets that the film hides. And to do this, it has launched a guide in Japanese with which viewers will be able to discover each and every one of the winks hidden in the film.
The secrets of the Mario movie
As if it were a guide to a video game, Nintendo Japan has decided to give life to a document with which to explicitly point out those winks that it decided to include in its first Super Mario movie. At the time we already listed many of those that we could see in the official trailer, but now we officially have all of them indicated and conveniently explained.
It's a shame that the guide is only in Japanese, so we'll settle for watching the movie still and understanding the reference. These are the clues that the document leaves us:
The Super Mario Plumbing ad

In the advertisement in which Mario and Luigi promoted their jobs as plumbers, they appeared as caped superheroes ready to solve the problem. It is a clear reference to the flying cape from Super Mario World on Super Nintendo.
Hanafuda Bird

In the same advertisement for the plumbers they explain that they move through all types of neighborhoods, such as Queens, where you can see the streets Hanfua Avenue and 1889 Street, references to the Hanafuda deck of cards that Nintendo originally manufactured in 1889. .
The Jump Man arcade

A very clear reference is to the arcade that can be seen at the back of the bar where a vinyl shows the name of Jump Man. It is obviously the name given to the Mario-like doll that was supposed to save the princess in the arcade. Donkey Kong.
Wrecking Crew

Another Nintendo legend released in 1985 was Wreckicg Crew, a game where another character very similar to Mario had to demolish bricks and buildings with a hammer. The character who bothers Mario works for that company.
The call of the stranger

When Luigi receives the call from the first client, we can see how an unknown number with a standard profile photo appears on his mobile phone. That image corresponds to the silhouette of a Nintendo Wii Mii.
The end of the level with a lowering of the pennant

One of the most obvious references that can be seen in the film is the race that Mario takes through the streets, where he ends up sliding down a pole in the same way he does in the game when finishing a level with the flag. The most interesting thing is that in the movie scene there also appears a castle on one side, which is actually a hamburger restaurant.
The ice cream shop

In a split second of the film you can see an ice cream parlor with a sign where you can see a polar bear wearing sunglasses. It's a nod to the 1985 Famicon ice climber cover.
The panic truck

In a fraction of a second you can see a parked truck with an image of the character from Oil Panic, the famous Game & Watch game from 1982.
Pikmin and Super Mario Galaxy

When Mario and Luigi go to the clients' house to solve the plumbing problem, the owner is in the living room reading a book called Galaxy, with a microworld extremely similar to those in Mario Galaxy. Next to it, a decorative Pikmin figure references the adorable creatures.
Kid Icarus on NES

You don't have to pay too much attention to see how Mario was playing Kid Icarus on a Nintendo NES.
The French restaurant

One of the scenes in the streets reveals the facade of a French food restaurant that responds to the name of Chasse au Canard, making a clear reference to Duck Hunt for Nintendo NES.
Mario's pixelated silhouette

One of the secrets that we liked the most is Mario's silhouette that can be seen when Mario and Luigi discover the secret pipe by breaking a brick wall. It's an exact section of the NES Mario sprite.
Balloon Fight

On the streets of the city you can see an advertising poster that is a reference to the cover of Famicon's Balloon Fight.
Diskun

A hardware store called Diskun has a fairly recognizable logo. It is none other than the mascot of the Famicon disk system, Diskun.
The princess is in another castle

When Mario went to look for Princess Peach, some guardian Toads stop him and inform him that "the princess is in another castle", a recurring message in Super Mario Bros, where in worlds 1-4 and 2-4 we receive the same message to continue advancing in the adventure.
Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong

When Mario faces Donkey Kong in the test coliseum, among the audience are Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong, clear fans of the gorilla.
Super Mario World map

In the cabin where the strategic plan to attack Bowser is being studied, you can see a map of the Mushroom Kingdom with a style similar to the map of Super Mario World on Super Nintendo.
A known desert

On their way back to the Champ Kingdom, Mario, Toad and Princess Peach walk through a desert with pyramids in the sky that is clearly a reference to Nintendo Switch's Super Mario Oddysey.
