Surely you have heard of her. And it is that devs does not leave anyone indifferent. This is the latest proposal from Alex Garland, director of Ex Machina y Annihilation (almost nothing), who now fully immerses himself in the TV series format without neglecting his specialty: science fiction. This is all you have to know of the title now available on HBO.
Attention: this article explains the theories on which the work of devs. While they don't incur a spoiler per se, it might be something you don't want to know about until it's explained in the series.
Devs, the Alex Garland series
If you are not very into cinema, perhaps the name of Alex Garland does not tell you much. However, if we tell you that he is responsible for films as peculiar as Ex Machina y Annihilation, I'm sure things will change. And it is that Garland's style is quite peculiar and characteristic, with a very marked rhythm (in which the soundtrack always plays an important role) that now you can see that it does not only apply to the world of cinema.
After having also made his first steps in literature and even in the world of video games, devs It is the director's first television proposal, a TV series that proposes a science fiction approach (what a surprise coming from who it comes from, huh?) with hints of suspense capable of hooking anyone. The approach is slow but enjoy enough rhythm so that in each chapter you want more.

In the plot we find characters related to the world of computer programming and a center, Amaya -upper image-, which has a private development department (and very mysterious to others) called Devs, of which nobody knows anything. People also work inside, who spend all day looking at a computer screen. Doing what? Well, developing an algorithm that predicts the past and the future and that is based on theories of quantum physics.
In the words of its director, devs "It's a beautiful existential puzzle." A declaration of intentions.
What is true in the plot of Devs?
That of predicting the future... sounds like a lot of science fiction and little reality, but the truth is that the series is based on the Israeli scientific work of David Deutsch from the University of Oxford, "The structure of reality", as well explain en esquire.
In his work, Deutsch combines the theory of evolution with the theory of computability to offer a new vision about the multiple universes of quantum theory. It is posited that the reality in which we live is made up "of all the simulations that are physically possible", and that each of them in turn gives rise to "a different universe". Each of these different universes, according to Deutch, could be simulated with a universal quantum computer (like the one used by Devs).

The first to talk about this concept -and which served as the basis for Deutch's work- was really Hugh Everett with his (repudiated) theory of parallel or multiple universes, based on the fundamental mathematics of quantum mechanics. This approach understands that quantum effects generate innumerable branches of the universe with different events occurring in each one.
Synopsis
But then, what's up Devs? This is what the official synopsis says:
[…] centers on a young software engineer named Lily Chan who works for Amaya, a Silicon Valley-based high-tech company. After the apparent suicide of her boyfriend, Lily suspects foul play and begins to investigate. She quickly realizes that all roads lead to Forest (Nick Offerman), Amaya's enigmatic CEO, and Devs, the company's secretive development division. In Lily's quest to uncover the truth, she uncovers a technology-based conspiracy that could change the world.
Devs Seasons and Chapters
devs It has been conceived as a miniseries, but we don't know if it could have more of the season that is currently available on HBO. If the television product is successful enough, we do not rule out last-minute surprises that would extend the proposal - you know how these things work.

Cast and characters of the series
One of the most outstanding things about Devs is possibly that it has a cast that is not especially mediatic. That's not to say that its actors don't have a run, of course. Without going any further, its protagonist, Sonoya Mizuno, a Japanese actress and dancer, has appeared in films as important as La La Land, Ex machina o Annihilation –it is clear that he understands perfectly with Garland- as well as in the series (from Netflix) Maniacal.
- lily chan (portrayed by Sonoya Mizuno): Protagonist of the series. Engineer who works at Amaya and whose boyfriend (Sergei) dies mysteriously and unexpectedly. Chan is convinced that the alleged suicide of her partner is not such and that something is hidden in Devs, Amaya's special development unit.

- Forest (Nick Offerman): Founder and CEO of Amaya and creator of Devs. His daughter and his wife died in an accident and since then he has lived obsessed with losing him.

- Sergei (Karl Glusman): Lily's boyfriend. Those responsible for Amaya promote him so that he can start working for Devs. But the next day, supposedly, he commits suicide.

- Katie (Alison Pill): Forest's partner and Devs admin. A cold and highly intelligent person who was recruited by Forest at a young age.

- Jamie (Jin Ha): Programmer and Lily's ex-boyfriend. He will help her investigate Sergei's disappearance/death.

- Kenton (Zach Grenier): Amaya's coordinator and Forest's partner.

- Stewart (Stephen Henderson): Devs Engineer. He seems to have been around since the beginning of the Devs project.

- Lyndon (Cailee Spaeny): A young Devs programmer. She would also be from the beginning of Devs with Syewrt.
