Everything we know about the antihero Loki series

Loki

We are doing a good review of the future Disney+ TV series and among the platform's proposals we find, of course, the renewal of loki. This anti-hero played by the magnificent Tom Hiddleston was quite successful in his first foray into Disney+, so it's not surprising that the studio has new seasons in mind for the character. Let's review in detail what we know about this character and his television series.

Loki in Marvel comics

Loki, Prince of Asgard, son of Odin, legitimate king of Jötunheim and God of lies. Thor's stepbrother is not just any character in the Marvel universe, in fact, he is considered by many to be one of best villains from the world of comics.

Conceived by Stan Lee, what some may not know is that this god had two outbursts in the editorial's pages: one in no less than 1949, when a "first Loki" appeared in number 6 of Venus, a comic based on the goddess of the same name, in which Loki was one of the gods who were exiled in the underworld.

Loki

For the other version we would have to wait almost 20 years. It would be in 1962, at number 85 of Journey into Mystery, when Lee decided to rescue him and redesign it with cartoonist Jack Kirby. There he would begin to take shape as one of Marvel's supervillains, capable of sowing chaos in Asgard and extending it to Earth and part of the universe, of course.

Loki was found as a child, hidden in a Frost Giant fortress, after a battle and adopted by the king of Asgard, Odin, who raised him as a son along with his own biological son, Thor Although it may not seem so because of his height - it was in fact the reason why he was confined in a fortress, out of shame for his father, Laufey, king of the ice giants-, this character possesses many of the physical attributes equivalent to the members of his race, such as enhanced strength, great stamina, speed, and immunity to all known diseases and toxins, as well as aging. He also has a great knowledge of magical forces, which together with his great intelligence, give him a great capacity for spells.

After giving more than one swing between good and evil (especially in the latter), the last time we saw and heard from the character was in Avengers: Endgame, where after getting hold of the Space Gem by pure chance, he decides to use it and take the opportunity to flee.

That left a great doubt in the air about his whereabouts (where has loki gone?) that has only multiplied after finding out about the existence of a TV series in which he is the protagonist. At what point in history will we see it? Will we enjoy his good side or his supervillain profile again?

Trailers

Episodes

The first season of this television series has a total of 6 episodes. They were broadcast on Disney Plus from June 9 to July 14, 2021. All of them were directed by Kate Herron.

  1. a glorious purpose
  2. The variant
  3. regret
  4. the nexus event
  5. A journey into the mystery
  6. Eternally. Always.

The events of this series take place "after" what happened in Avengers: Endgame -it's a manner of speaking, since he disappeared during an avenger time travel-, so we'll find out where exactly Loki went and what he's been up to ever since. That does not mean that it follows the time line that we knew, of course -remember that he died at the hands of Thanos-: since the Gem that he stole allows him to move through the multiverses, we can see it in other totally unexpected scenarios and, according to an image leaked on the internet , one of them could be somewhere on our planet in the year 1975.

Why was the premiere of the first season delayed? Loki?

It turns out that Loki It was scheduled to be released at the beginning of the 2021 but with the whole issue of the pandemic, many doubted when we would finally see the series on the platform. In fact, although its filming had already begun in the summer of 2020, COVID-19 forced everything to stop, leaving its premiere completely up in the air.

After knowing that Wandavision was a month late, we feared the worst, however, Disney has already reassured us all with a more hopeful date: it will be in May '2021 when we can enjoy it. We still do not have a specific day on the calendar but at least it is an important piece of information. Less is left.

Loki - Season 2

Loki's season one finale introduces the Marvel Multiverse, although as we've already seen, the character didn't appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as all the polls pointed out. At the moment, this second season has a first teaser.

At the moment, Disney has not dropped any details about the series. Marvel Studios has been working with a lot of secrecy lately, so we will have to wait a bit before having more information about this production. At the moment, it is known that the script is written, and filming was rumored to start around June 2022.

Hiddleston himself also gave a little hint to the press a long time ago, and one that many missed. In May 2020, the actor told Variety that I was going to shoot about 12 episodes and Loki. Knowing that the first season had 6, it is clear that there are still another six in the chamber, so this second would be the last season of the series for now.
