Matter begins to move and with it the interest of many users is awakening to see what it will finally be able to offer. Because this new standard aims to put an end to the chaos that home automation currently is. So to keep the party going, companies are giving details about how they will support their future and current products. One of them has been Google, who gave the first details of how Matter will work with Nest devices and Android-based endpoints.
Google and Matter, how they will work together
When Matter was announced in 2019 we knew that Google was one of the main partners that would help push this solution forward. A standard that promises to put an end to the current chaos that is the connected home. Now, with the commercial name already confirmed and all these first details about its benefitsIt is the search engine company that commented on how it will work with its products and solutions for home automation.
Just like Signify will do with the Philips Hue products, through a software update home automation products Google will support Matter. That means that some, such as smart speakers, phones or even smart TVs, will allow you to control any Matter-compatible device using Google Assistant.
This is very interesting because any device that adds support for Matter can be included in the installation based on Google Assistant. In the same way, these products can also be added to others that previously used other platforms and assistants such as Siri or Alexa.
The second thing is that the new Nest WiFi, Nest Hub Max and Nest Hub which has support for Thread can be used as a hub or hub of Matter-enabled devices. In other words, they will act as concentrates and that will facilitate the configuration and joint use of all of them through the company's assistant and the application itself that you can install on mobile phones or tablets.
Nest thermostat compatible with HomeKit and Alexa
So far everything is great and more or less as expected. Google launches updates for its current products, support for Matter is added and in turn Google Assistant benefits from the arrival of more products that will be compatible.
However, there is another detail that is sure to be of particular interest to Apple and HomeKit users (also to those who use Alexa): the latest nest thermostat released by Google will be updated to support Matter. That means that from that moment on it can be used together with the Google assistant, worse also with Siri and Alexa, something that until now was not possible and was a nuisance for many.
Of course, the negative part is that for now it only affects the basic model, the new and most recent Nest Learning has not been mentioned. Presumably it will also come to offer compatibility, but for now we will have to wait just as we will have to be patient for the release of these software updates, which have only been said to arrive, but not when.
The good thing is that Google has a page that will be updated so that you can be aware of all the devices that are being compatible with Google Assistant.
