Philips Hue in trouble: this is the new Nanoleaf Essentials

Nanoleaf kept its promise and finally launched its new range of Nanoleaf Essentials smart lighting products. An interesting proposal for price, for compatibility with different home automation standards and because they represent one of the great alternatives to the popular Philips Hue.

So are the new Nanoleaf Essentials

We already knew for some time that Nanoleaf was working on a range of cheaper products, the so-called Nanoleaf Essentials. Now they are a reality and as a first step they are more than interesting.

The Nanoleaf Essentials series consists of two devices at present. On the one hand a A19 smart bulb and on the other one LED strip. The type of solutions that both represent are already well known, but now they are focused on satisfying the needs of the majority of users at a lower price.

Technically the new Nanoleaf Essential smart bulb offers a maximum brightness of 1.100 lumens. A more than interesting capacity for the multitude of possibilities it offers. Especially if there is an intention to combine it with other lighting solutions.

The LED strip for its part also offers a very high level of brightness, 2.200 lumens. This lighting capacity and the possibility of adjusting its length by combining several strips as if they were one or cutting them if they are too long, make them more versatile than most options on the market.

For the rest, both products share aspects such as that they support adaptive lighting. This feature allows intelligent and automated adaptation, without the need for user interaction, both color temperature and intensity as the day progresses.

What a priori might seem similar to what can be achieved with routines is one more step in terms of improving the user experience with this type of smart light. And it can offer numerous advantages in order to prepare for bedtime, to combat a state of jet lag, change habits according to work shifts, etc.

Thread, the great novelty and future of the smart home

Along with everything seen before, one of the important novelties of this new series compared to the previous products of the brand and others on the market is the thread support. This technology allows you to create a mesh network between all devices. Thanks to this, neither depends on the other nor on a concentrate or HUB as is the case with other Zigbee-type standards.

Thus, although it might seem that it is like Bluetooth, the truth is that important benefits are obtained, such as that if there is a problem with one, the rest continues to work without problems, that the range of action grows considerably and the response itself to our orders or Actions are done faster.

As we say, Thread can be the start of a major change for smart consumer devices. In addition, it is also a technology that will have a lot to say with the arrival of new smart speakers such as Apple's HomePod mini and the integration that it will offer to adapt its lighting according to the content that is being played on a television thanks to Screen Mirror, etc.

Price and Availability

With all the news already known for these new LED bulbs and strips, how much do Nanoleaf Essentials products cost? Well then, the A19 Nanoleaf Essentials bulb is priced at 19,99 eurosWhile Nanoleaf Essentials LED strip with 2M length is worth 49,99 euros.

These are available for pre-order now and will start shipping shortly. Although you can also wait and buy them at your usual store or other online stores. And although we have not discussed it so far, these are solutions compatible with Google Assistant, Alexa and also with Apple HomeKit.

Post sponsored by Nanoleaf? I do not see objectivity in the article comparing only 2 products and not the ecosystem that Philips has...

The Philips ecosystem will continue to have a lot of value and I mean a user of its products. But for those just looking for a couple of bulbs and maybe an LED strip, compared to what Philips offers if we leave out its BT options, these may be more appealing.
