The new Ring allows Amazon couriers to enter your building

We have already seen how manufacturers such as Nuki or Qvadis are offering solutions with which to automate an element as forgotten as the home telephone. These intercoms allow you to open the door of a block of flats or the exterior door of a building, in addition to allowing voice communication with the other side, so they are elements that many users seek to automate. And for that reason, Ring has launched Intercom.

Ring Intercom, the smart phone

As with the Nuki Opener, this new Ring device acts as a bridge between your current telephone and your router. The idea is to offer wireless connectivity to the phone so that you can take remote control of the door from anywhere, and can also talk from your phone with the person who clicks on the call button.

What is?

As we have mentioned, this device will provide wireless functions to your conventional telephone, resulting in the following functions:

  • You will receive a call and notification when the phone is called
  • You can open the door remotely from your mobile
  • If you expect visitors, you can have guests open the door automatically when knocking
  • User management to allow entry to family and friends
  • Amazon couriers will be able to automatically access the building to deliver your order

Full integration with Alexa

The most interesting thing about Ring devices is that, being owned by Amazon, it offers seamless integration with the Alexa assistant, so in case you have an Echo at home, we could answer the call through the smart speaker, and combine it with other brand products such as the surveillance camera, and thus be able to see what happens at the entrance of the house when someone opens the door.

Automatic access if you receive a package from Amazon

Continuing with the advantages of the Amazon ecosystem, another very interesting function is that Amazon couriers who are going to deliver a package at home will be able to open the door automatically if you have a Ring Intercom. This function will be completely optional, although we do not know exactly how it works, since the official information speaks of a previously configured period of time.

How much does it cost?

This new Ring Intercom will be priced at 169 Euros, and will come with a pack of two batteries and a charging station. It is important to mention that the installation of the Ring Intercom requires the presence of a telephone, so at no time will it replace the communication device that you already have installed at home.

Unfortunately, we will still have to wait a long time to try it, since its launch in Spain will not take place. until early 2023. In the meantime you can take a look Setup Wizard to check exactly if your current telephone is perfectly compatible with the system.

This type of installation is usually not too complex, since you will have to replace certain cables and splice a couple of them together so that the device can capture the audio and call requests when someone knocks on the door.
