As of January you can control Google Nest devices from any compatible Samsung device SmartThings. An integration that opens the dams to a better experience for the user and a greater benefit for both companies.
Google and Samsung integrate their IoT solutions
SmartThings is the platform designed by Samsung and designed for the use of connected devices within the home. Thanks to it and in a very similar way to what other solutions such as Apple HomeKit, Xiaomi Mi Home or Google Home offer, you can control various types of devices, create scenes, etc.
Well, now the company has announced that it is starting a collaboration with Google so that the Google Nest devices can be controlled from Samsung SmartThings devices. This means that you can not only do it through the application available for iOS and Android, but also from all those devices that also offer said center, such as televisions and even smart refrigerators.
Ok, it's true that having a smart fridge and with a screen is something reserved for a few who can afford it, but having a Samsung Smart TV is something more common and being able to take advantage of all these controls is very interesting.
Also, the best of all is that it is not limited to a control through a simple panel with its respective buttons. The Google Nest devices can be integrated into scenes that are created from SmartThings, which gives this collaboration greater potential when using surveillance cameras, thermostats, smart doorbells, etc., within the connected home.
However, it must also be said that this is only the beginning. The idea of both companies is to strengthen this collaboration and further expand the possibilities of the ecosystem that can be created by combining products from both companies as well as any other that is compatible with their connected platforms.
An integration that will improve in the long run
This collaboration between the connected platforms of Google and Samsung will begin starting next January 2021. And together with its launch we will also have news that will affect versions 11 of Android and later.
These will affect Galaxy devices that, thanks to the work of Google and the company itself, will allow users to control everything from the shortcuts on the screen.
What you should know is that in order to enjoy this new integration, you will have to link both accounts to work as one. Something that just as first does not attract much attention, but it is not that it is anything bad and it is beneficial in order to grow that ecosystem of connected products within the home.
For the rest, it will be necessary to gradually see how everything works and what are those long-term plans that both companies are commenting on. Of course, we already knew that both SmartThings and Google Home, HomeKit, etc., were going to work to unify standards and that all that mess that can be the use of IoT devices right now becomes much easier. We'll see if they succeed or not, for now it seems that everything is on the right track.
