Huawei 's product lineup will soon expand with the addition of a new phone. Rumors suggested the Chinese company would launch a smartphone in December, a theory now confirmed by the appearance of an official image from the company on the Chinese social network Weibo. We'll tell you the details.
New Huawei with Infinity-O screen to tickle Samsung
As we pointed out, the promotional image of a new Huawei phone has appeared on the Asian platform Weibo - it was published by the company itself, no less - thus confirming that a smartphone launch is approaching.
The advertising poster, which announces a December launch, shows the silhouette of a phone with very thin bezels, alluding to an Infinity-O display , and a curious detail in the upper left corner. If you look closely, you'll see a brightly shining star in that area—the setting is that of a galaxy—suggesting that the device will have an " Infinity-O " display, meaning a small cutout or hole in the panel for the front-facing camera.
This type of design allows for a notch-less phone , like the one Samsung is expected to unveil when the rumored Galaxy A8s is officially launched. Huawei would thus be seeking a direct response to its main Korean competitor, even getting ahead of the Galaxy phone unless the latter also makes its debut next December.
If the Chinese phone comes out first, Huawei would score a very important point, giving birth to the first phone on the market with a hole in the screen and taking that honor away from Samsung.
As for the exact model our protagonist is, there's still some doubt. Many suggest it will be the Nova 3S, since Huawei launched the Nova 2S last December and the Nova 3 (and its sibling, the Nova 3i) was released in the middle of 2018, so the timing of the update and launch aligns well. Others claim it will be called the Nova 4 , which might make even more sense if we're dealing with such a significant design change as the one mentioned for its screen.
Is this the Nova 4?
This second theory is supported by the folks at SlashLeaks , who have just published an image on their account of someone caught red-handed on public transport with what appears to be Huawei's new phone. The device is wearing the typical protective case used when testing an unreleased smartphone—to conceal its true design if caught—and has a hole in its screen for the front-facing camera.
Just as the name is unknown, so too is the official name Huawei will give to the "Infinity-O" display, a term used by Samsung. Luckily, we'll clear up any doubts about all of this very soon. We'll tell you everything right here, don't worry.
