Even so, nothing compares to seeing it for what it is today, thanks to the official launch of the first foldable phone from the company that's taking the world by storm: welcome Mate X.
Mate X, Huawei's first foldable phone
It seems unbelievable, but this week we're all witnessing a major leap forward in the world of mobile phones. Samsung unveiled the world's first foldable phone on Wednesday , and now we're seeing the second: Huawei's Mate X.
The phone has just made an appearance at the event that the firm is holding in Barcelona, ​​letting us see what this interesting smartphone with a foldable screen of no less than 8 inches looks like - it is therefore larger than Samsung's proposal.

We already told you that the panel folds "outwards", unlike Samsung's Galaxy Fold, something that could be an advantage for our protagonist as it has no "gaps" when closed thanks to its special hinge - which also allows it to be 6 mm thinner than Samsung's.
Of course, the terminal does not fold right in half; actually a third of it does, thus proposing another type of design and different mechanics within this new type of phones.

You also won't find overly thick bezels here (quite the opposite, in fact) or a notch , something Huawei has pointed out with an image directly comparing the phone to its rival, the Galaxy Fold – no beating around the bush, that is.
Multitasking also makes perfect sense on its screen , thanks to the ease with which you can work on the phone with several apps open at the same time without feeling like you're running out of space. As for turning the device on, it has a side button that also functions as a fingerprint reader.
The phone, by the way, features 5G technology thanks to its Kirin 980 processor with a Band 5000 modem , making it ready for this connectivity and simultaneously jumping on the bandwagon at this trade show—a two-in-one, indeed. It also comes with a protective case.
As for the battery, we're talking about two modules, one on "each side" of the phone, achieving a total of 4.500 mAh (85% of which is charged in just 30 minutes with the 55W super charger), and in case you're wondering, yes, it supports dual SIM cards (one of them 5G).
Price and availability of the Mate X
We all expected a price lower than Samsung's, but this time it wasn't to be. Even the company's CEO had to apologize, pointing out that it probably wasn't the price everyone was expecting and explaining the costs and technology behind a product like this.
The Huawei Mate X will cost a hefty €2.299 with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It will be available mid-year, although a specific release date has not yet been announced.
