Curling the loop: OPPO patents a hole on the screen with a superimposed icon

Now that the holes in the screen begin to become more "popular", some manufacturers are considering that it is time to give it one more lap to the topic. That could certainly be the case for Oppo, which has been caught registering a new patent for a phone whose screen has a hole-icon. This is how this new invention would work.

A phone with a hole-icon integrated into the screen

Oppo did an excellent job last year with its Find X, a all screen terminal that put aside the notch and opted instead for a retractable system in which to house the front camera. The firm has also tried with the drop-type notch, in its RX17 model, which reduced this element to a minimum. Now the Asian company could be ready to make the move to the hole integrated into the screen (it is logical and expected), although with an unexpected twist.

That at least is what we can deduce after discovering two of his last patent records, filed in the Global Design Database (WIPO) under the description “Mobile phone with app icon interface”. As can be seen in the images, the manufacturer would have devised a hole in the screen that would "merge" with an icon, the Chamber. Yes, all in the same place.

Thus we would find a screen with a hole in the upper left corner on which Camera app launcher icon overlaps and next to which more action icons could appear with a swipe gesture to the right with our finger. Altogether this interface would be able to display up to five icons (being one of the camera itself) in the upper area, taking better advantage of this area of the panel, although the idea is that it can be do scroll down lateral and even more apps appear.

Regarding the back of the device, there is a two-sensor photographic system, next to the LED flash, and a fingerprint reader -Oppo could have sacrificed the integrated screen reader this time. The lower area of the smartphone shows a speaker, a charging port and a 3,5mm jack.

And what phone could these images correspond to? Many point to could be the expected Oppo R19, although it is still not clear and there are no clues in these documents that help us confirm this theory. Some previous leaks have shown that the R19 would indeed have an "all screen" design, although it was also said that it would have a retractable camera and a fingerprint reader on the screen, two features that at least do not appear here.

No matter what the phone is called, without a doubt the new approach that makes the hole on the screen with built-in icon is the most interesting of all this. What do you think of such a solution?
