The periscope technology Oppo is not new. The manufacturer presented it at the Mobile World Congress of 2017, but it will not be until now when we see a mobile using it for real. The best? That their abilities have improved, going from 5 to incredible 10x Of vision.
The next Oppo will see the world with 10x optics

Two years after the first version of 5 magnifications, Oppo has everything ready to present its new 10x hybrid zoom. Although he has not gone into details about which phone will include it, he has specified what secrets the new triple camera system hides with which to offer a hybrid zoom of no less than 10x. The term optical zoom has a trick, since the terminal will not allow you to increase the focal length in the same way that we could do it with a telephoto lens on an SLR camera.
Optical zoom? Not so fast.

Instead, the future phone will have three cameras with different focal lengths, and it will be the software that allows you to go from one to the other progressively with some adjustments. We imagine that, taking into account the 10 magnifications of the new periscopic lens, the main sensor will have enough megapixels so that the jump to 10 magnifications can be done comfortably.
In other words, a traditional optical zoom would allow the image to be progressively increased to get closer to the objective little by little. Since this is currently not possible in the small dimensions of a phone, manufacturers get by with little by little cropping and interpolation until they reach the next optical step. For example, if the main sensor has a 50-millimeter lens, from that focal point you would have to increase the image digitally until you reach the 159-millimeters offered by the 10x periscope. That is, we would have native images at 50 and 159 millimeters (direct captures from the corresponding sensors), but the intermediate shots will depend on the resolution of the main sensor. Oppo's new system is responsible for making this progression in a completely transparent way to the user, ensuring excellent results starting from the ultra-wide camera and reaching the 10x telephoto lens.
A revolutionary periscope
In any case, it is inevitable to talk about the periscope that they have managed to include in the phone. It is true that we still have to see the final thickness of the device that will go on sale (the manufacturer claims that the camera takes up very little space), but the technology included is fascinating. They promise resistance to falls, guaranteed with more than 10.000 shock tests, and they have also managed to include a stabilization system that will avoid focus problems when aiming at infinity (almost).
This new terminal will be announced at the next MWC, so we will have to wait a few weeks until we can put a face on it. We will also have to talk about the price, but as you can imagine, for now it remains a mystery. Of course, taking into account the cameras that it has and that it will have a new fingerprint sensor integrated into a wide area of the screen, it is most likely that we are talking about a terminal of at least 900 euros.
