Punch-hole displays. If you haven't heard about them by now, remember this term. Punch-hole displays are the latest trend in mobile phones, and today we already have the first contenders vying to be "the first in the world." On one hand, we have the Honor View 20 , the new device from the Chinese manufacturer that boasts a hole for the front camera in the screen, and on the other, the Galaxy A8s , Samsung 's offering that arrives in the Chinese market today.
The first phone with a perforated screen?
We already know Samsung likes to be first in everything, and this technology was no exception. Given their industry reputation for displays, it was impossible for Samsung to miss out on this breakthrough, and while it seems they've managed it, it's still a rushed and somewhat rushed move. This is all due to Honor's presentation today of its View 20 , a device that also features a hole-punch display, but which won't be available in stores until later.
Honor's announcement sounds more like a "hey, we're here" warning from Huawei, so Samsung may have had to accelerate its plans and decided to launch the Galaxy A8s somewhat hastily. Hence its exclusivity to the Chinese market.
Features of the Galaxy A8s
The new phone has the style and essence of the brand's current models, with a design that combines glass and metal, and the same details as other mid-range/high-end models of the brand. The front camera is positioned in the upper left corner, and the hole through which it peeks out seems larger than we had imagined.
Inside, we find a Snapdragon 710 processor , with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage , although there will be a version with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On the back, there's a triple-camera setup with 24MP, 5MP, and 10MP sensors, while the front-facing camera boasts 24MP. This Galaxy A8s features a 6,4-inch screen, and the device is only 7,4 millimeters thick. One downside? The headphone jack is gone.

For now, the phone will only be presented in China, so we will have to see if Samsung is encouraged to continue doing so in other countries in the coming weeks. Technically the phone has not been presented, since the brand has the official presentation scheduled for the next few hours, however, they have decided to offer the first details through their official website.
