In its latest releases, Xiaomi has not kept secrets. The manufacturer revealed the most outstanding feature of the Mi MIX 3 with a video shared by its own president, a tactic that they have used again to advance the first details of their next flagship. The Xiaomi Mi 9? Perhaps, although for now the only thing we know is that it will have a 48 megapixel camera.
A Xiaomi with 48 megapixels

It has been once again on the Weibo social network where the manager has given freedom to his creativity, posting a small photo where, although not too many details are seen, it serves to know that the terminal will have a 48-megapixel camera thanks to the nomenclature which is reflected in the body of the device itself. But if we look a little closer, we can see how the bezel that surrounds the camera seems to continue, so at least this mysterious phone would have two rear cameras, and we'll see if it's not three.
The image also allows you to see the location of the volume rocker, which appears to be on the right side of the phone, as well as the dual LED flash, positioned under the camera. Considering the resolution, one of the options that Xiaomi could have used in this configuration is the Sony IMX586 sensor, or even Samsung's ISOCELL GM1, although if we take into account the brand's history, we are more inclined towards the option from sony.
Why do we need a 48 megapixel sensor?
In addition to being able to shoot at such a high resolution, the phone could combine the potential of the sensor with software, being able to take shots at a lower resolution by interpolating pixels to obtain more information in the shot. As in other brands (such as Huawei), 4 pixels would work together to bring a single pixel to life, resulting in a final 12-megapixel photo with greater detail, more sensitivity, and greater dynamic range.
When will we see this mysterious phone?
As they well point out in GizmochinaIn Xiaomi's roadmap, the only thing that has been confirmed so far is a 5G version of the Mi MIX 3 for the first quarter of 2019, a phone that a priori should show the same exterior design as the Mi MIX 3, something that does not would match the posted image. So the only option we have left is that this 5G version launches a completely different design or that, on the contrary, the manufacturer has prepared a new device such as the Mi 9.
In addition, the arrival of the new sensor could also be accompanied by the new Snapdragon 855 recently presented by Qualcomm and 10 GB of RAM, characteristics that are quite consistent for the great photographic commitment.
