Google is revamping how its AI features are accessed on mobile: Chrome is adding a direct shortcut to " AI Mode " right below the search bar when opening a new tab on Android and iOS.
This access simplifies the leap from the traditional search engine to a conversational experience : it allows you to formulate complex questions, link doubts and obtain answers with relevant links, very much in line with what already existed on the computer.
Here's how the new shortcut works in Chrome

After updating your browser, when you open a new tab page you will see an oval button labeled “AI Mode” located below the search bar , next to the Incognito mode access and above your frequent sites.
With one tap, Chrome takes you to the AI interface to ask multi-part queries , ask follow-up questions, and receive contextualized answers with links for further exploration.
Google is also incorporating more "agent" capabilities: the system can help with reservations (restaurants, events or appointments) by combining data from Maps and the Knowledge Graph with integrations from partners such as OpenTable, Resy or Ticketmaster, a feature that will be activated in phases.
Conversations can be shared via links for group planning , and on Android shortcuts such as "summarize page" or "ask about what you see" are starting to appear, while on desktop there is similar access from the omnibox to unify the experience.
No complicated setup is required: simply keep Chrome updated on iOS or Android and the button will automatically appear in the new tab. If you prefer the classic search, it remains available as always.
- Take the deeper questions and in several steps without changing apps.
- Continue with follow and explore related suggestions.
- Accede to verified links for more information.

Availability, languages and arrival in Spain
The rollout of Direct Access began in the United States on November 5 and will progressively expand to more than 160 countries , with support for new languages such as Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese, among others.
In Spain and the rest of Europe, availability will be gradual : some users will see it before others as Google activates the feature in stages on iOS and Android.
This move fits with Google's strategy of bringing generative AI closer to the browser itself and reducing jumps between apps, in a context of greater competition with AI-powered assistants and browsers.
It's important to note that, because the results are based on language models , they may contain errors. Chrome displays relevant links to help you compare data and refine your query without losing track of the topic.
To try it out, make sure you're using the latest version of Chrome on your mobile device: the new "AI Mode" button appears on the new tab page without any additional setup.
With this addition, Chrome on mobile takes a practical step: a visible and useful shortcut that reduces friction when researching, planning or requesting summaries, and which will arrive in Spain as part of the global rollout with a consistent experience across all platforms.
