Google Photos adds new AI-powered features to simplify creative and editing tasks. The app debuts a clearer organization and adds automations that allow create content in fewer steps, both for images and videos.
The most visible change is a dedicated tab for creativity and guided editing. With this update, Gemini takes on some of the heavy lifting so anyone can create collages, memory clips, or visual effects without having to go through complex editors.
The new "Create" tab in Google Photos

The big new feature is the Create tab, located next to Photos, Collections, and Search. This space centralizes the tools that were previously spread across the app: collages, automatic videos, animations and cinematic images, as well as upcoming advanced generators.
This reorganization makes it easier to locate each tool and avoid jumping between menus. Google notes that the tab is arriving gradually to Android users, with plans to expand to more platforms later.
What Gemini does within "Create"

Collages in seconds: Simply select multiple photos and AI will suggest a composition ready to share. However, you retain control to reorder images, adjust sizes, or add frames and styles, achieving careful results without complications.
Highlight videos with prompts: A text box allows you to type in a place, person, or date. From that prompt, Gemini selects relevant shots and create a clip with coherent transitions and rhythm, which can be personalized or sent as is.
Cinematic visuals: From a static photo, the app generates a three-dimensional scrolling effect that adds depth. It's not a complex generative animation, but a subtle 3D finish that enhances everyday scenes and special memories.
Animations: When you select a sequence of images, Google Photos creates a short animated video. This is a useful option for give movement to bursts or sessions without leaving the gallery.
Natural language editing: "Help me edit"
The built-in editor adds a "Help me edit" button to request changes with voice or text. You can request simple or creative adjustments such as “turn up the brightness”, “remove the person from the background” or “change the shirt to red”, and the app applies the changes in seconds.
