ASUS has just unveiled its new ScreenPad Plus technology at Computex , a secondary screen that comes as a natural evolution of the ScreenPad we previously saw in the Zenbook and Zenbook Pro, with the difference that now it offers a considerable size and is capable of completely changing the user experience in many applications.
More than a secondary screen
The idea is striking from the official images alone, though its technical specifications are equally impressive. This 14-inch screen boasts a resolution of 3.840 x 1.100 pixels (4K) and will serve to extend and complement the main 15,6-inch 4K OLED display found in the new ZenBook Pro Duo . Thanks to software developed by ASUS, a side menu allows users to modify various settings and access numerous shortcuts, but the truly interesting aspect arises when using applications.
The screen will be able to snap windows to full screen to enjoy menus and toolbars from different programs with complete ease, thus providing touch controls with a much more complete interface than what we could have in the Touch Bar, the touch solution proposed by Apple in its MacBook Pro.

This solution from ASUS is certainly quite interesting, as it also solves one of the space utilization problems in a 15-inch laptop. With the help of a touchpad that also functions as a numeric keypad, the brand has managed to overcome the trackpad placement issue , thus freeing up the entire top surface for the ScreenPad Plus display.

You may like it or not, but seeing these kinds of daring designs is welcome, as it completely changes the general perception of laptops. Available with the new ZenBook Pro Duo, these machines can be configured with Core i9 processors , RTX 2060 graphics , and up to 32 GB of RAM —high-end specifications that will surely be reflected in battery life. However, we'll also have to see how battery life is affected by having to power a second 14-inch screen.
At the moment we do not know anything about its price and release date, so we imagine that it will be a matter of a few weeks or the odd month so that we can see it in action.
