This week we covered Gmail's design update and even explained how to install the Material Theme on your phone —in case waiting isn't your thing. Now we have some news about new features that are reportedly being tested in the app, and they're all related to Inbox.
A Gmail to the Inbox, the next thing to arrive
Google announced last year that its Inbox app would be discontinued in 2019 —at the end of March, to be precise. This attempt at an email manager with a somewhat experimental feel didn't quite take off within Google's offerings , so the Mountain View company didn't hesitate to quickly shelve it and move on to something else.
However, the existence of Inbox has not been in vain, and at the same time as its farewell was announced, it was promised that many of its features would be included in Gmail , to make this app an even more powerful platform.
These intentions may finally be taking shape, or at least that's what can be deduced from a screenshot a user uploaded to Reddit. It shows an internal version of Gmail for Android with new, never-before-seen features, such as grouping emails by content (the famous "bundles"). In this example, emails related to technology are grouped together in a single bundle called "Tech News."
The inclusion of reminders ("Send email to John") is also evident, and these would appear in the main inbox, although it's unclear whether this is due to synchronization or integration with Tasks or Google Assistant . These messages could also be pinned to the screen (or so we deduce from the blue pin icon), keeping the reminder visible until the task is completed.

According to the leaker (who claims to have obtained the information from a friend), there's still a lot of work to be done on this integration plan, so these new features will take some time to arrive on your phone. In fact, it's expected that these features will first be showcased at the upcoming Google I/O 2019 developer conference , which will be held from May 7th to 9th at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California.
