YouTube gives you more control: stop seeing recommendations from any channel

Youtube

latest controversies have not helped Youtube, and have made many consider using it and even using it within the platform. For this reason, the popular service announces changes that will help control what they recommend or not. To prevent you from leaving and to continue being that incredible place where you can find very good quality, educational, interesting content…

Greater control of YouTube recommendations

YouTube has introduced a series of changes that will affect the content displayed on the home page and also the following videos to play. The three changes are:

  • Browse by interests and related topics on the home page. This will allow you to find new content or content related to what you are or have been watching. That is, it is based on the current suggestions and at the top you will see a series of labels through which to navigate. For now it is only available for users who log in in English through the Android app. Soon it will also be active in the iOS application, desktop and for other languages.
  • Option to remove channels that you do not want to see from the suggestions. With this option, if you don't like the content that a channel makes, you will be able to tell it not to recommend it again. It does not matter if they deal with a topic that may interest you. For example, if you don't like the gameplay or the cooking recipes of a certain channel, then mark it and it will never appear again in your recommendations. It also works for the channel of that artist that you don't want to hear sing again.
  • Why does this content appear? The latest news is rather an explanation of why this recommendation appears. That is to say, when you go through the home page looking at the list of videos, there is content from channels that you have never seen and now YouTube will tell you why it is showing it. This feature is already available in the iOS app globally, with Android and desktop coming soon.

Youtube homepage changes

Like these three novelties, the idea of YouTube is to alleviate the controversies of recent months and regain the trust of users. Also, a bit of transparency that helps to understand why they show what we see in the smartphone or computer application is interesting.

At the content creator level, it is good to know that there is interest in redirecting the situation, and that they are not throwing balls out. As a user who consumes content, having that control to stop seeing the "dark side" of YouTube and enjoy better existing content is great news.

Of course, hopefully the next step will be or have an impact on the Trends tab, a very complicated section. There you can see the content that most users consume, but it would be great if there was some way to highlight other types of content that were not the viral on duty, the ball pool or that scare that almost ended with its protagonist in the hospital.

What do you think, Will you leave YouTube anyway or does this give you some hope?? If you stay, remember that we have a channel and we have started publishing content that we hope you enjoy as much as you do reading The Output.
