While we've all been browsing and searching through the Prime Day 2023 deals , Warner Bros. Pictures hasn't wasted any time and has surprised us with the release of one of its big 2023 premieres: Wonka, a prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Timothée Chalamet picking up the torch from Johnny Depp and the legendary Gene Wilder.

Wonka, what was Willy like before everything we know?

The eponymous novel by Roald Dahl, published in 1964, has inspired a couple of iconic films. The first starred Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, who undoubtedly brought his own unique touch and character to the role . Even those who haven't seen the film (it's now 50 years old, which is quite a long time) have the image of the actor dressed in the colorful attire of the eccentric character etched in their memories.

Many years later, Tim Burton's version followed, starring Johnny Depp in one of the roles of his life. Depp possesses that eccentric air that he undoubtedly brought to a new Wonka that captivated everyone.

Finding an actor to portray the character in a prequel, showing his origins and what he was like as a young man, was no easy task. Even so, we all breathed a sigh of relief when Timothée Chalamet was chosen for the role. His disheveled, alternative style seemed like a good fit for a younger Willy Wonka, a theory we can now see if it holds true thanks to the film's first trailer. Is he truly up to the task?

As we mentioned, Warner Bros. Pictures didn't want to wait any longer and has finally released the first trailer for Wonka. In it, we can finally see how one of Hollywood's hottest actors fares in the lead role, something that has left critics somewhat divided.

There are the fans of the Dune actor , who believe it fits him like a glove; and those who think that perhaps the role is too big for a young man who lacks that touch of charisma and spark that both Wilder and Depp knew how to give the character.

Trailer in English with subtitles:

Whether you like the role of Chalamet or not, what cannot be denied is that the film seems to be surrounded by magic and color in each frame. The staging and setting show that Paul King has taken this endearing story very seriously.

Trailer in Spanish:

Wonka will premiere in theaters this December. It will arrive in US theaters on December 15th , and although a European release date has unfortunately not yet been specified, we imagine it will be around the same time. A great reason to go to the movies this Christmas.

And you, what do you think of Chalamet as the protagonist?
