Confirmed: Disney+ will prepare a Star Wars series with Ewan McGregor

Obi-wan

Disney+, the new on-demand content service, has not yet come into our lives but it already sounds so promising that it is not surprising that the rest of the platforms are nervous about what is to come with the American giant. Their main weapons to conquer us? Well, among them is the great commitment to new original content, including a new Star Wars series with Ewan McGregor as protagonist. There is nothing.

New Star Wars series with Ewan McGregor

What began as a rumor (quite strongly, by the way, by renowned specialized publications) has ended up being a reality. We are talking about the new Star Wars series starring Ewan McGregor, who will give life to Obi-Wan Kenobi in a special installment dedicated to this character and exclusive to the Disney+ content catalog.

After the corresponding negotiations between the company and the actor (which we already told you about almost two weeks ago), both parties reached an agreement that was confirmed last night during the first day of Disney's D23 Expo. The factory confirmed the existence of a series by way of spin off with McGregor himself on stage, who did not hesitate to miss the appointment to thus join the collective hysteria:

As well indicated in Variety, a long time ago since the idea of launching a movie with Obi-Wan as the main character, however, after being delayed several times, the idea was buried in a drawer seeing how little success it has had Solo, the film centered on the character of Han Solo. This, however, seems to have been left behind and although the details are scarce at the moment, it is known that Disney will be encouraged by this series whose scripts are already planned and that it will start production next year.

Star Wars

Let's remember that Disney+ has already confirmed (and also officially presented last night) the series The Mandalorian, a series that will have as protagonist Cassian Andor, a character first introduced in Rogue One to the actor Pedro Pascal, under the direction of Jon Favreau. Still in the process of completing production, it is scheduled to premiere on the Disney+ service on November 12 of this year and will place the characters a few years after the events that occurred in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

At the same time, another series on Cassian andor, character first introduced in the film Rogue One and that will feature Diego Luna as the protagonist, repeating the role [Thanks, @treki23 for the warning and correction].

A new installment within this universe only reinforces a catalog of Disney+ content that already sounds promising. The company is going all out with its new platform and will invest a large amount of money in a catalog in which we will see many of the house's own proposals. It is worth mentioning, for example, the soap opera maintained with Netflix, which has ended up snatching all its series from Marvel (after all, Marvel Entertainment is owned by The Walt Disney Company) to take them to their long-awaited platform, where we will also see new titles based on characters such as Hawkeye, Loki, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel or Moon Knight -These last three were also confirmed last night.

The Disney content service will reach the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands (the only European country at the moment although it has served to find out the first prices of Disney+ in euros) at the end of this year, in the month of November. Its landing is expected in spanish lands for the first quarter of 2020.
