The new adaptation of Hellboy , a character created by Mike Mignola in the 90s, is all set for its theatrical release. Therefore, it's no surprise that a new trailer has just been released, giving fans a final preview before the premiere.
With this new trailer, we can confirm that we're in for a dark and irreverent film , packed with action and with strong apocalyptic undertones, as expected. In fact, as a fun fact, the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) has given the film an "R" rating for "strong bloody violence and gore, and mature language."
The story takes place in London, where Hellboy battles the Blood Queen and resists the temptation to turn to the dark side. The synopsis follows:
The Agency for Paranormal Research and Defense (AIDP) entrusts Hellboy with the task of defeating an ancient spirit: Nimue, known as "The Queen of Blood." Nimue was the lover of Merlin himself during the reign of King Arthur, from him she learned the spells that led her to be one of the most powerful witches... But madness took over her and imprisoned the wizard for all eternity. Centuries ago they managed to finish off this villain, burying her deep, but she has returned from the dead with the intention of destroying humanity with her black magic.
The film is directed, as you may already know, by Neil Marshall ( The Descent ), while the screenplay was written by Andrew Cosby (Haunted, Eureka). David Harbour (yes, the same Jim Hopper from Stranger Things ) is responsible for bringing Hellboy to life, thanks to an incredible transformation involving many hours of training and makeup.
After suffering an unexpected three-month delay, the film will premiere on April 12 in the US, before making its way to other countries - in Spain, for example, we will have to wait until May 17.
