The Christmas season is often a time when advertisers are at their most creative and imaginative. A perfect example is this charming Google Assistant ad starring none other than Macaulay Culkin , a nod to the film that made him famous in the '90s, Home Alone . Don't miss it.
This time he is not entirely "alone"
Google wanted to launch a Christmas ad featuring its smart assistant and new smart home speakers, and it seems they couldn't think of anything better than to borrow from American cinema. Home Alone , first released in 1990 , tells the story of a boy left alone at home for Christmas after his parents forget to take the whole family on vacation (or so they thought) to Paris. During his time alone, burglars try to steal, but the boy proves to be incredibly resourceful and manages to make life difficult for the thieves, foiling their plans.
We've included the trailer below in case you need a refresher.
Google knows that few people haven't seen the movie by now, and playing on a bit of nostalgia and popular sentiment, they've decided to film an ad featuring, of course, the star. Macaulay Culkin —who's all grown up now—appears in the commercial recreating some of the film's most iconic scenes , but this time accompanied by a Google Home Mini and its resourceful virtual assistant.
The setting of this story is that Kevin , the protagonist of Home Alone , is now an adult and is in the middle of Christmas at home, a house full of devices controlled by Google Assistant and in which the aforementioned speaker is not missing.

Remember that the Google Home mini is a small smart speaker with the Google Assistant built in , capable of helping you with many tasks and providing up-to-date information on many of your questions. You can also play music, and it's compatible with other smart home devices (like light bulbs or plugs , to name a couple), allowing you to have centralized control.
If this ad and seeing Macaulay Culkin were all you needed to convince you to buy one, you should know they're sold in the official Google store for €59 —and if you buy two, you can save €29. Happy shopping!
