Galician Vocational Training has begun a modernization process unprecedented through the integration of artificial intelligence into language learning, with special attention to the Mechanical Manufacturing sector. This transformation, promoted by the Xunta de Galicia, seeks to align the educational offer with the demands of an increasingly globalized and technological labor market..
The Regional Minister of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training, Román RodrÃguez, recently presented this initiative during his visit to the Cortizo technology center in Padrón. Together with the Director General of Vocational Training, Eugenia Pérez, he emphasized Galicia's firm commitment to Implement innovative solutions that connect training with business reality.
The Vetinen Tool: AI Applied to Teaching Technical English
The big news for the next course is the Incorporation of the Vetinen tool into the Mechanical Manufacturing cycles in 30 centers throughout Galicia. Vetinen, created by the Eduardo Barreiros Galician Center for Vocational Training Innovation in Ourense, proposes a unique methodology: through a 3D interface, students interact in English with avatars and virtual scenarios that simulate real situations in the industrial fieldThese include assembly tasks, parts inspection, technical maintenance, and international customer service, allowing language learning to go hand in hand with the acquisition of professional skills.
This technology combines the development of language skills with the latest advances in artificial intelligence, creating an immersive learning experience. Nearly 6.000 students and 52 vocational training centers are expected to benefit from the Vetinen extension during the school year, which begins in September.
The Ministry explains that the tool had previously been successfully tested in Hospitality and Tourism cycles and that its progressive implementation responds to the need to prepare future professionals for increasingly internationalized environments.
Connection between education and business: strategic collaboration
Vetinen's deployment is accompanied by a strong joint work with the Galician business community, especially with leading companies like Cortizo. Minister RodrÃguez highlighted how collaboration with this firm, a national leader in aluminum and PVC systems, has led to the training of more than 200 students in intensive dual vocational training and internships in companies in recent years.
Looking ahead to the new course, Cortizo will also participate in the highly specialized welding programs which will be taught at the Santiago Polytechnic Integrated Vocational Training Center. The objective is to advance toward a vocational training program capable of effectively responding to the demand for advanced technical qualifications in Galician industry.
Immersive experiences and training for global challenges
The commitment to innovation goes beyond language learning. The use of artificial intelligence allows vocational training students to immerse themselves in simulations very close to what they will find in the real worldPracticing technical English in situations such as inspecting parts or serving foreign customers not only improves employability, but also strengthens the confidence and autonomy of future professionals.
This strategy is part of a broader project for the digital transformation of Galician vocational training, which aims to ensure that tools like Vetinen eventually reach the entire educational system at this level. The Ministry emphasizes that training is thus adapted to an industrial sector characterized by its high degree of innovation and the need for profiles with high-level linguistic and technological skills.
The role of innovation in the classroom: towards a more international and technological vocational training
The introduction of AI in vocational training places Galicia at the forefront of educational change in Spain. The pilot experience in Hospitality and Tourism paved the way for expansion into key industrial areas and marks the beginning of a new era for vocational training, with a clearly international, personalized and technological vision.
Collaboration between educational centers, the Galician Center for VET Innovation and the business community is emerging as the key to ensuring that the system remains at the forefront and respond with agility to new work scenarios. Educational authorities insist that work will continue to progressively incorporate these experiences into all professional families.
With initiatives such as Vetinen, Galicia reinforces its commitment to a Modern, flexible vocational training connected to international realityStudents will have the opportunity to acquire essential language skills while developing advanced technical skills in increasingly realistic virtual environments, opening the door to new job opportunities both in Spain and abroad.
