DJI has officially unveiled the Mic Mini 2S, a compact wireless microphone designed to address one of the most notable shortcomings of the Mini series: the lack of internal recording capabilities. This new model, already available in Spain and other European markets, is a direct evolution of the DJI Mic Mini , offering a significant leap forward in audio security and versatility for creators working solo or in small teams.
The device's major innovation is that each transmitter, weighing a mere 12 grams, incorporates 14,5 GB of internal storage. This allows for recording up to 28 hours of audio in the default 24-bit mode, or around 22 hours if the 32-bit floating-point format is chosen. This local backup capacity represents a paradigm shift for the Mini series, which until now relied exclusively on wireless transmission to the receiver or camera.
Internal recording: the missing lifeline
The standout feature of the Mic Mini 2S is undoubtedly its ability to record audio independently on each transmitter. 32-bit floating-point recording allows for the recovery of extremely quiet sounds or volume peaks without distortion , which is crucial for outdoor interviews, sports recordings, or any situation where a take cannot be repeated. The dynamic range of this format is so wide that the gain can be adjusted in post-production without losing quality, greatly simplifying the work of those recording without a technical support team.
Internal recording control is quite flexible. It can be started and stopped from both the transmitter and the receiver, and there's even an option to automatically activate recording when the receiver's battery is low—a smart feature to prevent errors at critical moments. Through the DJI Mimo app, users can choose between raw or processed files, with the latter being the default. The processed option applies audio processing on the device itself before writing the file, so the recording arrives ready to be inserted into an editing timeline.
Downloading files is also a breeze. The Mic Mini 2S's charging case allows you to transfer files from the transmitter at speeds of up to 34 MB/s , roughly double the speed of the Mic 3. According to the company, a 30-minute, 24-bit recording transfers in about eight seconds. Integration with the Osmo ecosystem remains one of DJI's strongest selling points. The Mic Mini 2S transmitters connect natively to select Osmo cameras without the need for a receiver , delivering 48kHz/24-bit audio directly to the Osmo Pocket 4 , Osmo Pocket 4P, Osmo 360, Osmo Nano , and Osmo Action 6. For creators already working with this hardware, the advantage is clear: one less device to power, mount, and wire, with a significantly higher sampling rate than that offered by standard Bluetooth peripherals on most action cameras.
AI noise cancellation and voice adjustments
DJI has integrated noise reduction into an NPU for what it describes as deep AI noise cancellation, available in two levels via the Mimo app. The Basic level focuses on indoor noise issues like fans, air conditioning, and reverberation , while the Intense level is designed for intense outdoor noise, such as traffic or wind. According to DJI, both levels offer greater vocal clarity with less distortion than the Mic Mini 2, with the Intense level achieving higher levels of filtering. However, it's worth remembering that aggressive noise processing has a long history of sacrificing intelligibility for the sake of silence, so it will be interesting to see how it performs in real-world situations.
Gain control is offered in two adaptive modes. Clip Control, enabled by default, automatically attenuates volume peaks, while Loudness Balance dynamically boosts quieter passages to maintain a consistent output. This latter function is especially useful for interviews and live broadcasts where speakers are at very different volumes. The three voice tone presets from Mic 3 are retained: Regular for a balanced capture, Bright for greater clarity in the highs, and Rich for a warmer character with greater bass emphasis.
In terms of physical design, the transmitter measures 28.58 x 28.04 x 13.52 mm and weighs approximately 12 grams with the magnetic front cover attached, increasing to about 15 grams with the magnet in place. This is one gram more than the Mic Mini 2, a minimal difference considering the internal storage capacity it offers. The rear clip is detachable and rotatable, allowing you to orient the capsule whether the unit is mounted sideways, upside down, or placed on fabric with the magnet attached. Magnetic front covers return, with eight color options sold separately, along with a Mic Mini 2S Time Series cover set designed in collaboration with illustrator Victo Ngai. It's worth noting that the 2S covers are redesigned and not interchangeable with those of the Mic Mini 2.
Redesigned battery and charging case
Internal storage and a faster processor come at a cost, and this is reflected in the battery life figures. The transmitter has approximately 11 hours of battery life, and the receiver about 10 hours , with the charging case extending the system to around 40 hours total. The Mic Mini 2 had battery life of 11.5 hours, 10.5 hours, and 48 hours respectively, so the 2S loses approximately half an hour per unit and a full eight hours of case capacity. Charging takes 70 minutes for both the transmitter and receiver. For most single-day recordings, this is irrelevant, but for multi-day trips without a reliable power source, the reduced battery reserve in the case is a factor to consider.
The charging case has been redesigned to hold two transmitters, one receiver, one mobile receiver, two clips, two magnets, two windscreens, and a 3.5mm audio cable. This last part is the solution: the Mic Mini 2's case couldn't hold both the mobile receiver and the cable, so users ended up carrying loose accessories along with a case designed precisely to prevent that. Now, everything fits in one place, making it easier to transport and organize your gear.
Prices and availability in Spain
The DJI Mic Mini 2S is now available in Spain through the official DJI store and authorized retailers. The transmitter alone costs €69 , while the basic kit with one transmitter and one receiver costs €99. The mobile bundle, which includes one transmitter, one mobile receiver, and the charging case, is also priced at €99. The most complete configuration, with two transmitters, one receiver, and the charging case, sells for €189. The charging case can be purchased separately for €33, the set of multi-colored magnetic front covers costs €19, and the Time Series collection is priced at €39.
DJI has not released pricing for the United States, and given that the Mic Mini 2 was not offered through official channels in that country at launch, and considering the ongoing regulatory pressure the company faces there, its availability in the US market remains uncertain. In Europe, however, the product is already available and is expected to be well-received by content creators, journalists, and audiovisual professionals seeking a lightweight and reliable system.
