This is the story of Philips Caudell, a developer who was tired of looking for a monitor that would fit aesthetically with his iMac. A complicated task if one takes into account that the LG UltraFine that Apple sells are not exclusive to them but are manufactured in collaboration with the popular television manufacturer and that the Apple Pro Display XDR costs 5.500 euros without a base.

So what was the solution you looked for? Create your ideal monitor, a screen with 5K resolution and the aesthetics of an iMac. So I could have a setup symmetrical and with the same image quality as the iMac 5K. Of course, the process is not available to everyone and requires skill and knowledge in equal parts.
Because to achieve this personalized screen the first thing he did was buy a second-hand 27″ iMac. Or rather the casing, because it was the only thing that really interested him. Since his plan was then to introduce a Philips panel with the same diagonal and 5K resolution that he bought on eBay and that is the same model that the iMac 5K mounts.
From there, he also had to buy other elements that would allow him to create his Frankenstein from the monitors. Like, for example, a driver that would allow the Mac to recognize the monitor and to be able to manage the video signal that the graphic would send to it. Although as indicated, the only handicap What he had to come to terms with was the need to use a dual DisplayPort cable in order to get the full 5K resolution out to that second display.
The final result? Well, for many the ideal, a monitor with the same 5K resolution as that of the current 27″ iMac and with the same aesthetics. So if you are one of those who value design and symmetry, it is the ideal option. The problem is that it is certainly not a solution within everyone's reach and it would also be necessary to see to what extent it really pays to put aesthetics first. Especially if you take into account that there are monitors of great quality and design.
