We've been amazed by LG 's rollable OLED screens for years , but until now they were nothing more than demonstrations of functional prototypes that seemed a long way off. That changes today. LG has formally unveiled its new Signature Series OLED TV R , the commercial version of the world's first rollable OLED TV . See what it looks like.
LG Signature Series OLED TV R
LG aims to redefine our concept of television with its new Signature OLED TV R. This model (65R9) offers anyone interested the possibility of owning a large 65-inch OLED screen that can be hidden away whenever desired thanks to its flexible design, almost disappearing from the room—or at least, not dominating the space.
The TV features the Alpha 9 Gen 2 intelligent processor which combines with Dolby Vision support and an AI-based deep learning algorithm - how strange, huh? - to deliver higher quality and much more realistic images with 4K resolution.
In addition to having a 4.2-channel Dolby Atmos speaker system (100W) and support for ThinQ AI (proprietary) as well as Google Assistant and Alexa , the TV is compatible with AirPlay and comes with HDMI 2.1 connectors.
Possibly one of the most remarkable things about the device (beyond its rollable nature, although directly related to it) is that it offers the user three different viewing options: Full View , Line View, and Zero View.
With the first mode, the LG Signature OLED TV R is displayed fully extended for normal viewing; with the so-called " Line View " - image just above this paragraph - the TV can be partially rolled up, so that it can be used as an information panel to display, for example, the music that is playing, images, or a clock with the time.
Finally, we have the so-called " Zero View ," which keeps the entire screen hidden within its elegant base. Despite this, it will be possible to play music through a high-quality wool-covered speaker designed by the Danish textile firm Kvadrat.
Price and Availability
LG has released few details about the TV's release, though they've made it clear it will be a premium product —like their entire Signature range, for instance. It's also worth remembering that the company's so-called "wallpaper" TV, an OLED TV that hangs on the wall like a poster, costs €6.999 for the 65-inch version (OLED65W8PLA), so you shouldn't expect anything below that price… and it will likely be (much) higher.
It will be available for purchase starting in March.
