If you're serious about podcasting, the Rodecaster Pro is becoming an almost essential gadget.

If you are going to dedicate yourself to recording podcasts seriously and, above all, continuously, one of the best investments is an audio interface. If, in addition, you want to make podcasts where other people participate, the Rodecaster Pro is one of the best options. And seeing how they update their software, even more.

Rodecaster Pro, the ideal complement for the advanced podcaster

Rodecaster Pro

La Rodecaster Pro It is by no means a new product, the manufacturer launched it a few months ago and there are already many users who use it on a daily basis. Still, if it's in the news again it's because of how committed Rode is to the product and its user base.

When the Rodecaster Pro was introduced, there were already plenty of reasons to bet on it. A sound interface with USB connection to the computer that allowed to use up to four sound sources via XLR connections, also Bluetooth pairing or line input to be able to record calls via telephone conversation or any other VoIP application, output for monitors, independent controls and pad for the reproduction of sounds predefined by the user.

In this way, not only the quality of the captured sound was improved, but also the subsequent editing work was facilitated if you did not want to complicate adding effects, etc. Well then, version 2.0 of its firmware has just been released and Rode's product gets even better. Thanks to this update, in addition to correcting some small problems, they have improved what already worked and gave value, as well as adding other new features.

  • Now we have a podcast transfer mode that allows you to import the content of an SD card to your computer without the tedious previous process that forced you to remove it and place it in a reader. Access the settings, activate the new mode and the interface could be said to become a card reader.
  • On the screen you can now see which sound pad is currently playing and the time remaining. Useful information for all kinds of recordings and especially if you do live events.
  • Also, through said icon and screen, you can access the sound panel settings without having to resort to the complementary application.
  • Hay new “Pause” mode, which allows you to stop playing a sound by pressing the button. The Pad starts blinking and does not stop until it is pressed again and playback ends. If you want to stop it completely, you keep it pressed and that's it.
  • Up to 8 sound banks can be stored, making a total of 64 sounds available via the pads.
  • have been improved controls for live broadcasts, allowing the main output level control knob to be disabled. Also mute monitor outputs automatically when faders are open.
  • Another useful option is the possibility of speaking with someone we have through a call without the content being recorded or going to the monitor outputs.

With all this, Rodecaster Pro Companion is also updated (you can download it here) to match the firmware. Although the highlight is that they have added the option to save Shows, this option allows you to take a snapshot of the settings, sound and everything else you have previously done.

These configurations can be saved on the computer to keep them safe for when they are needed, to switch according to the podcast that is going to be recorded, etc.

As we say, the Rodecaster Pro is not a device for just any podcaster. What's more, in many cases an interface like those of Focusrite it may be enough, or even a microphone with a USB connection to facilitate its use with the computer. But if you are going to dedicate yourself seriously, if you want maximum versatility and options to increase the level of your productions, together with good microphones, this Rodecaster Pro can be a great help. And beware, it is not so expensive seeing how it evolves, 525 euros costs on Amazon.
