Sonos has summoned specialized media to an upcoming event that the brand will hold at the end of the month, on August 26 and 27 to be exact. They do not give information about what will be seen, but The Verge has been able to know what they could present: their first portable speaker which, in addition, will include Bluetooth connectivity and support for AirPlay 2.
Sonos's first portable Bluetooth speaker
As it collects The Verge, the product that Sonos is going to present at its next event at the end of August will be a portable speaker. This will not only be the first Sonos device that you can take from one place to another, without the need for an electrical outlet for its use, it will also be the first with Bluetooth. This is a feature that, together with AirPlay 2 support, is interesting for all that it entails.
What is being said about the new Sonos portable speaker for now is based on what was found out through the FCC and The Verge's own sources. Still, it's very likely that it is, and it certainly looks pretty good.
For starters, the new speaker is known as Sonos model S17. It is supposed that physically it will be very similar to the current devices, with that rounded design. But beyond how it will be on an aesthetic level, the important thing will be its use options.
On the one hand, it will continue to maintain Wi-Fi connectivity and it can be used together with the Sonos app and other speakers when you are at home or in a fixed place. This gives you the option to enjoy multicolor sound or multi-speaker configurations for surround sound among other usage schemes.
The Bluetooth connection will give the user greater freedom and facilities when on the go. For example, if you go on a trip, vacation or party with friends, you can play music just by connecting your smartphone via bluetooth. Nothing to create a wireless network. Something that can be done, it is not very complicated, but it is more annoying than using Bluetooth.
Other features of the future Sonos model S17 are:
- Dedicated button for quick and easy switching between wifi or bluetooth connection mode.
- When using bluetooth mode you will not be able to use the Sonos app, it is only for Wi-Fi connection.
- It will have support for the joint use of Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice assistants.
- It will have a charging base for use inside the home and the option to charge via USB C cable when you are on the go.
- It will include an integrated strap for easy transport.
With all this, Sonos's future portable speaker does not look bad. Also, along with it Sonos will introduce a new feature called Auto Trueplay.

So far, Sonos speakers make use of the smartphone application to take advantage of their microphone and calibrate the sound. From now on, with this new function and the built-in microphones, they will be able to adjust the sound by themselves. That way, when they move from location they will be able to detect it and regulate the sound again for a better experience.
For now, and until official presentation, all these data are quite possible and it is likely that they will be fulfilled one hundred percent. Nevertheless, next August 26 we will leave doubts, We will know their prices and who knows if there are any more surprises.
