DJI Mic Mini: The lightweight wireless microphone that promises to revolutionize audio for creators

DJI Min Mini

Tech giant DJI surprises us once again, this time with the launch of the DJI Mic Mini, a compact, lightweight and feature-packed wireless microphone that will delight content creators. With an incredible size that surprises with its small dimensions, this new generation of microphones aims to revolutionize the way content creators record and work both outdoors and indoors.

Smaller, lighter, but no less powerful

DJI Min Mini

Weighing in at just 10 grams, the DJI Mic Mini is positioned as an ultra-lightweight and extremely portable option. Compared to its sibling, the DJI Mic 2, it weighs less than half as much. Not only does this mean it’s more comfortable to wear during long recording sessions, but its minimalist design makes it ideal for those looking for camera discretion. From magnets to clips and straps, DJI has thought of a number of ways to attach it without compromising aesthetics.

The first impression left us intrigued: can such a small microphone deliver high-quality sound? According to DJI, yes, and it does so with features such as two-level noise cancellation, ideal for both quiet and noisy environments. A practical example? Imagine recording a vlog in the middle of a crowded city centre. The “Intense” level promises to filter out most of the ambient noise, focusing on your voice.

The technology behind the sound

DJI Min Mini

One of the great promises of the DJI Mic Mini is its ability to deliver rich, detailed audio. Here, DJI has gone all out, incorporating dual-channel recording (mono and stereo), to separate or combine tracks according to our needs. Also, if you are one of those who fear the dreaded “clipping” or those moments when the volume explodes unexpectedly, the safety track that records at a level 6 dB lower will give you the peace of mind of always having a backup.

From our experience with previous generations, this feature was already a lifesaver, and we're glad they're keeping it in this mini version. However, one interesting new feature is the automatic limit that adjusts the volume to avoid distortions, something that certainly simplifies live recordings or recordings in noisy locations.

The battery: 48 hours of uninterrupted creativity

And here's the kicker. DJI claims that the Mic Mini's charging case offers up to 48 hours of battery life. For content creators who shoot marathon days, this is a clear plus. And if you're in a hurry, you can get an hour of use out of the case in just five minutes. These numbers are impressive, but we'll be watching to see if they actually live up to this promise in real-life situations.

Unlike previous models, where carrying the components could be a bit of a hassle, the all-in-one design of the case is handy and clean. Plus, the transmitter's auto-sleep mode is another great idea: it saves battery when it doesn't detect a signal, which prevents those lapses we've all had when forgetting to turn off the microphone.

Unlimited connectivity

DJI Min Mini

The DJI Mic Mini is not only compact, it’s also versatile. It can connect via Bluetooth directly to smartphones and DJI devices like the Osmo Action 5 Pro or Pocket 3. This means you don’t need a receiver to start recording, which greatly simplifies your workflow.

Compatibility with multiple devices, from cameras to drones, makes it an ideal companion for any creator. In fact, the ability to sync the Mic Mini with a drone and add audio directly to aerial recordings is a very interesting option that opens up a significant range of creativity.00

Price and availability: is it worth it?

The DJI Mic Mini starts at €169 for the full kit (two transmitters and one receiver), and there's also a cheaper version with one transmitter for €89. If you need additional components, such as the charging case, these can be purchased separately.

At first glance, the price seems competitive, especially considering that it includes features that are optional in more expensive products. Compared to previous generations, this version is clearly more affordable and attractive for beginners.

Another very DJI product

DJI Min Mini

The DJI Mic Mini is a product that couldn’t represent the brand better. The weight and size are impressive, and the specs seem designed to meet the needs of both beginners and intermediate creators. From what we’ve seen from the first and second generation of DJI microphones, the manufacturer has a solid track record when it comes to sound quality and design. This Mic Mini seems set to democratize access to good wireless audio, and we love that.

Now, if you already own a DJI Mic 2, you might not find enough reasons to upgrade. But if you're looking for your first wireless microphone or need a portable solution without spending a fortune, we think the DJI Mic Mini will be hard to beat.
