We always hear that certain brands are "in the top 5," that a company's value has fallen, that another is now the most valuable in the world… and it's always the same companies that come up in conversation. Apple , Google , and Amazon are usually among the top names when talking about the most powerful brands in the world , but has it always been this way? The following graphic , which has already become a viral video on social media, shows that it hasn't.
The most valuable companies in the world
If you're familiar with current technology or finance, you probably know that well-known companies like Microsoft , Apple, and Amazon are among the most valuable in the world. You might not know their exact rankings , but it's not surprising when we refer to them in these terms.
Obviously, it hasn't always been this way. Almost a decade ago , the world revolved very differently when it comes to the value and power of a company. Some companies that once reached the very top, seemingly unbeatable , now can't even crack the top five . The great technological revolution we've experienced (and in which we're still immersed) has completely altered the traditional ranking of the world's most valuable firms. And while you might think many companies have always been at the top, the truth is that some have suffered precipitous declines while others have soared to new heights in just a few years.
To help you see and understand what we're telling you much better, someone has created an interactive graphic showing how the ranking of the 15 most valuable companies in the world has changed , which you can see right below [ small spoiler-tip : pay special attention to how everything explodes from 2010 onwards]:

The video is currently going viral online, racking up retweets and likes from Twitter users. And it's no wonder. The graphic, created by Nick Dimichino, social media manager at Square , clearly and visually demonstrates that the tech world, despite having been making waves for almost 20 years, has truly revolutionized everything, especially since 2010, giving us eight years of upheaval that have completely altered the corporate hierarchy.
Apple's rise, as you've seen, has been nothing short of spectacular, while Google, in a somewhat more measured way, has also managed to position itself at the top. Special mention should be made of the fall of Coca-Cola , which reigned supreme in the rankings for years, and how, starting in 2014 (mind you, that's only four years), Amazon has gained unprecedented momentum—it will be interesting to see how far it goes.

And this is possibly just the halfway point. Nobody knows what will change our future as profoundly as technology has, and therefore, who the most valuable companies in the world will be in 20 years —many of which may not even exist now—but current firms still have plenty of life left in them to keep fighting for the top spots. Well, or so we think. Any bets?
