Samsung prepares the launch of new smart sports shoes

If you thought that the product ecosystem of Samsung had covered every possible tech product, wait till you see the next device that might be coming soon. It is about some smart shoes that would have a USB port to be able to recharge the internal battery that they hide inside and that would be able to offer all kinds of data related to physical activity.

A product with several years of development

Samsung Sensoria smart shoe

The idea is not new, since the manufacturer has been flirting with clothing companies by integrating smart sensors for several years, including some sports shoes that they launched almost now. three years at MWC 2016. But it seems that the brand will try again, since that is what we can intuit after seeing the patents assigned a few days ago, after submitting its application last August. In the documents you can see the images of two sports shoes that would stand out for the incorporation of a intelligent sensor in the heel area, a design very similar to that of a brand specialized in these products.

One of the models would integrate the sensor completely in the heel, having a magnetic cover that will protect the communication connections at all times, while the other version of the shoe will hide the connector in the form of a rear loop (the one we use to insert the foot in shoe).

What would this smart sneaker offer?

Far from being limited to counting the steps or strides of a sporting activity, the sensor integrated into the shoe would be capable of monitoring many aspects in real time, informing the person wearing them at all times with data such as cadence, footprint zones, impact and other more common data in other sports tools such as the average pace of the race, total time, etc. All this information could even serve to prevent injury related to the way we step and move while running.

The interesting thing about the models presented in the patent is that the designs are very similar to sports shoes from Sensory, a manufacturer of smart sensors for sportswear that last year already showed its products at the CES, including a sneaker similar to Samsung's. That said, the Koreans may have had the help of Sensoria to create this new product, a device that would fit perfectly in the Las Vegas show, so we may see them officially next week.
