LaCie has announced the first models in its 2019 catalog. This is the Mobile Drive 2019 line , comprised of external hard drives that boast a meticulously crafted design. These models feature a beautiful diamond-cut metallic finish that will look quite striking on your desk or wherever you take it when connecting it to your MacBook or PC.
The best part is that this series now offers a 5TB version , perfect for those who need a good amount of extra storage to take with them. Not what you're looking for? Wait, there's more. The brand has also announced a new drive in the Mobile SSD range, with 2TB of storage and read speeds of up to 540MB/s, perfect for very large files that you handle frequently.
Seagate, for its part, is also showing off its new product line. The company has unveiled its new FireCuda 510 , an internal hard drive with NVMe protocol (meaning it uses PCI-Express technology) and 2 TB of storage, boasting read and write speeds of 3.400 MB/s and 3.100 MB/s, respectively. You'll also find other new external models: the Backup Plus Ultra Touch , with a fabric-like chassis (though lacking the FireCuda's super-performance) and a USB-C port; and the Backup Plus Slim and Backup Plus Portable, both with USB 3.0 interfaces.
Regarding pricing and availability , much information is still up in the air. In the case of LaCie, the company hasn't yet released figures on the price ranges for its drives, although you shouldn't expect anything cheap for either the 5TB drive or the SSD.
Seagate, for its part, has given us a little more information. We now know that the FireCuda drive will be available in March, although the price has not yet been announced. The Backup Plus Ultra Touch model will be available at the end of the month, priced at $70 for the 1 TB version and $90 for the 2 TB version. As for the Backup Plus Slim and Backup Plus Portable , they will be available at the end of February, priced at $60 and $80 for the 1 TB and 2 TB Slim versions, respectively, while the Portable versions will be offered in 4 TB and 5 TB capacities for $110 and $130, respectively.
