Valve is once again focusing on the living room with the return of its mini PC for television. The new Steam Machine offers a plug-and-play experience with SteamOS , without sacrificing the flexibility of a full-fledged computer, and will be available for purchase in Spain and the rest of Europe through the Steam store in early 2026.
Compared to the attempt a decade ago, the context is different: SteamOS has matured with Proton as the key layer for Windows games , and the experience gained with Steam Deck paves the way. Valve is aiming for stable 4K/60 FPS performance with FSR and a quiet, compact form factor for the living room cabinet.
Design and hardware
The chassis is cubic and very compact, with an integrated power supply to avoid external bulk and a thermal system designed around a high-volume 14cm fan . Valve claims the unit remains quiet even when installed in a cabinet, with an estimated total power consumption of around 200W , similar to the EmuDeck Machine.
Inside, the Steam Machine features a 6-core, 12-thread AMD Zen 4 CPU with speeds up to 4,8 GHz (30 W TDP) and a custom AMD RDNA 3 GPU with 28 CUs and a sustained clock speed of 2,45 GHz (110 W TDP). It is paired with 16 GB of DDR5 RAM and 8 GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM for the graphics card.
Valve is targeting modern games at 4K and 60 FPS , leveraging FSR upscaling technology, typically starting from base resolutions like 1440p. According to the company, the console offers around six times the performance of a Steam Deck.
There will be two models with NVMe 2230 storage: 512 GB or 2 TB , both expandable via a high-speed microSD card slot. The announced dimensions are approximately 156 × 152 × 162 mm , with a minimalist design and a customizable front LED strip for system status and visual alerts.
Connectivity and ports

The proposal covers use on TVs and monitors with a full selection of connections and remote control support. The Steam Machine is compatible with HDMI-CEC for TV control and allows background downloads while you play or turn off the screen.
- Videographer: DisplayPort 1.4 y HDMI 2.0.
- USB: 1 USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps), 2 front USB-A ports (USB 3.x) and 2 rear USB-A ports (USB 2.0).
- Net: Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E (two antennas) and Bluetooth 5.3.
- Dedicated 2,4 GHz radio for the Steam Controller with low latency.
Software and features
The machine runs SteamOS 3 with the KDE Plasma desktop and all the platform's usual features: cloud saves, quick suspend/resume mode, and a catalog with Verified-style compatibility indicators. Thanks to Proton , most Windows games work on Linux without any extra configuration.

Like any good PC, you can install Windows if you prefer, or add your own Linux applications. You can also move your library between devices: the microSD slot lets you transfer games from a Steam Deck to the Steam Machine (and vice versa) by simply swapping the card.
Steam Controller and ecosystem
The Steam Machine will include, or can be purchased bundled with, the new Steam Controller . The controller combines two joysticks with TMR sensors to prevent drift, four rear paddles, and two haptic touchpads located on the bottom to accurately emulate a mouse during long gaming sessions.
The controller improves the gyroscope with a high-sensitivity solution and offers ultra-low-latency wireless connectivity via a proprietary dongle, in addition to USB and Bluetooth compatibility. Battery life is promised to be long and geared towards extended use in the living room.
Valve emphasizes the ecosystem's interoperability: you'll be able to stream gameplay to Steam Deck or future devices , and share removable storage seamlessly. The company hasn't ruled out licensing the technology to third parties in the future.
Models, price and availability in Spain

The Steam Machine will come in two storage configurations (512 GB and 2 TB), expandable via microSD. Valve is aiming for a price in line with current home consoles, although there is no official figure yet and pre-orders are not open.
The launch is planned for early 2026 , and sales will be exclusively through Steam in Spain and the rest of Europe. The console is designed as a genuine alternative to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S , while maintaining the freedom of a PC.

With a compact design, custom AMD hardware, and SteamOS as its backbone, the new Steam Machine aims to take center stage in the living room, combining console convenience and PC flexibility . Its promise of 4K/60 FPS with FSR, connectivity to the entire Steam ecosystem, and the option to install Windows make for an ambitious proposition, pending the final price.
