The new DualSense is almost worth half a PlayStation 5: are there alternatives?

Dual Sense Edge

Announced a few weeks ago, we now know the price and official release date of the new PlayStation DualSense Edge controller . This new controller is a more complete version, aiming for the same goals as the Xbox Elite Controller : a more comprehensive gamepad for demanding gamers, offering greater control. Want one? Well, get your wallet ready.

It costs like average PS5

Dual Sense Edge

The DualSense Edge's features are quite impressive, but what will really make your eyes pop and raise your eyebrows is its price. Priced at €239,99 , this wireless controller will hit store shelves worldwide starting January 26th, though pre-orders begin October 25th . This means you'd practically be paying half the price of a PS5 for one of these controllers, or almost the price of a whole PS5 if you bought a pair. At least you can connect it to your PC for extra functionality.

Why is very expensive?

The price is daunting, no doubt about it. Considering the official price of the classic DualSense is €74,99, the new controller's price increase is €165, making the jump quite surprising, to say the least. But behind its label lies a wealth of technology, and while the DualSense already impressed with its adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, this DualSense Edge takes engineering to another level, achieving features that will convince even the most demanding gamers. It won't turn your PS5 on by itself , but it will certainly help you improve your Call of Duty score.

The remote box includes all of the following:

  • DualSense Edge Wireless Controller
  • USB braided cable
  • 2 standard caps
  • 2 tall dome tops
  • 2 low dome covers
  • 2 half-dome rear buttons
  • 2 rear toggle buttons
  • Connector housing
  • Carrying case

customize it however you want

To begin with, the most striking feature is its analog sticks , as they are completely replaceable . You can swap the pads for taller models or those with a different grip, but you can also replace the entire stick module with a new one if so many hours of use take their toll.

DualSense Edge features

At the bottom are two customizable buttons, similar to those found on other controllers, but in this case, these buttons can be customized with control sticks or flippers for a more precise click depending on how you hold the controller. These buttons are labeled RB and LB.

The adaptive triggers can now be adjusted in depth (as on the Xbox Elite Controller) and, as a major new feature, the analog sticks can be adjusted to define sensitivity and dead zone.

The simplest section affects the software, and that is that this command is completely customizable in its controls, being able to give specific functions to the lower triggers and being able to access quick adjustments such as the volume level of the headphones or activate certain configuration profiles.

Are there alternatives?

Finding controllers similar to the PlayStation DualSense is quite difficult these days, especially due to its unique adaptive triggers. But if we had to recommend an alternative, Scuf Gaming 's models offer fantastic build quality and include customizable bottom triggers.

Its price starts at €199,99 , although there are more complete versions with non-slip finishes and short-travel triggers, which then cost up to €279,99. And that's a decent PS5 setup.
