Beware, this scam uses Fortnite to sneak you into a subscription

A suspicious message is being shared on the networks, especially among those young users who are looking for download Fortnite from your mobile. This is a notice that includes a link to a website that ensures that Fortnite can be downloaded from any Android phone, attaching a download button that hides a scam that should be taken into account.

Download Fortnite on any Android?

Fortnite Scam

It is well known that Fortnite is available on almost all existing platforms in the world, however, not all phones and tablets can play the game due to its minimum requirements. This impediment causes many users to continue looking for a way to play the game on their phone, so it is normal for some users to fall for deception like this.

With the premise of "Download Fortnite now on any Android”, some users might be tempted to click on the link, and this is where the nightmare begins. The web receives us with an aspect similar to the Google Play Store. This could make users believe that they are visiting a reliable website and from which the game can be downloaded without problems, but that is not all.

If we click on "Install", the web will force to share the information up to three times through WhatsApp so that we inform our acquaintances of this fantastic opportunity. This is where the hoax begins.

But the worst is yet to come, since sharing the link for the third time (closing the window is enough to go to the next point), the web redirects us to another call Game Zentral, a subscription service that offers guides and tips of somewhat dubious quality. The problem is that the person who came to the web from the Fortnite link finds a text box that invites them to enter their mobile phone to subscribe.

Next to this text box appears an image of Fortnite with the title "Tips and Tricks", something that many could understand as the final step to download the game that they started looking for in the beginning. Mistake.

Pay almost the same as for Netflix in 4K

All you have to do is enter your phone number and press the Continue button to receive a confirmation code so that the Game Zentral services begin to be charged through your next phone bill at a price of 3,99 euros per week. Or what is the same, 15,96 euros per month, almost the same for what you would pay for Netflix in 4K. Imagine if a minor entered the phone number expecting to download the game.

Apparently, as we can see on the Game Zentral terms and conditions page, the services are provided to Orange and Yoigo users for a value of 3,99 euros per week, and only those users signed up for the service will be able to access the portal with the information contracted, as long as they do it from a mobile connection, and not through WiFi.

Fortnite Scam

The interesting thing about all this is that in addition to the way to hide an unwanted subscription, the true services offered by the Game Zentral portal are perfectly accessible from the computer, and in case the web detects that we are from a WiFi connection, we will only have to cancel the loading of the page to read the contents (in our case, it was enough for us to take a look at the source code to access private videos and all the contents). The worst thing is that the services offered are of quite poor quality, and some, like the Warzone guide, the tricks for Fortnite or the guide to get the perfect island in Animal Crossing, are completely empty materials and without relevant information for the user.

How to unsubscribe from Game Zentral?

If you are affected by this issue, there are several ways to opt-out:

• Clicking on the 'cancel' button when you access the portal from your mobile.
• Calling the customer service telephone number 900264441 and following the instructions for processing the cancellation.
• Sending an e-mail addressed to es@digitalmindsmktg.com requesting the cancellation.

How to deactivate payments to third parties

Payments to third parties Vodafone

These payments occur and are allowed because they appear activated by default with your operator. It is something that you should take into account, and that you should keep an eye on to avoid getting unwanted scares. In Vodafone, for example, the option can be deactivated if you access the section Options > Payments to third parties. There you will have to deactivate the options Allow payments for application and content stores, as well as Allow payments to content portals. Do not hesitate to check with your operator to avoid any problems and make sure that they are deactivated.
