Announced in January 2021, two years later we already have the first gameplay images of the new Indiana Jones game. Under the title Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the game will be developed by MachineGames (creators of Wolfenstein), and as you will be able to see, it is pure Indiana Jones. Or should we also say Uncharted?
Hello again, Doctor Jones.
Would be absurd to say that this new installment of Indiana Jones seeks to resemble Uncharted, since precisely the good Nathan Drake draws a lot from the incredible adventures of cinema's most beloved archaeologist. But taking into account how forgotten the hero was in the video game industry and the generations that Naughty Dog has marked, it is to be expected that comparisons will appear.
The first images (no less than a 15-minute video with a lot of in-game content), have allowed us to see an Indiana Jones who arrives represented with the appearance of Harrison Ford, although the actor in charge of giving him life is the unmistakable Troy Baker (Joel in The Last of Us). The game places us in a timeline located between Lost ark y The last crusade, so the setting will be very similar to that of the first cinema films, which is quite cool.
In first person
One of the artistic decisions of the game is that the action will take place mostly in first person, leaving the third-person camera only for specific actions and very specific camera shots. This will allow us use the whip in a quite interesting way, although we will have to see exactly how the gameplay develops, since Indi is not usually trigger-happy, so there shouldn't be too much gunplay with firearms either.
With puzzles to solve
If there is something that characterized the adventures of Indiana Jones, it is that the character had to decipher puzzles and riddles to find hidden treasures or get out of more than one trouble, and all of that will not be lacking in this adventure. Even so, not all the puzzles will be mandatory, so it will be up to the player to delve into the enigmas.
Release date
After being quite generous showing images of the game, the icing on the cake was missing. MachineGames has only announced that the game will be released in 2024, so we still don't know exactly when we can play it. If in January they have not been able to give a date, it is most likely that the next time they announce it we will have to wait another few months until we can play it, so the most likely thing is that we will go to the last quarter of the year or, with luck, to the month of September. The game will arrive on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC, and will be available from day 1 with Xbox Game Pass. I can't wait to play it!
