It was to be hoped that the story would not end there. After Nintendo sued the creators of Yuzu and they will strike down in a matter of days the Nintendo Switch emulator most famous of the moment, the community of emulation and video game lovers has not sat idly and has given life to a new completely free and technically legal software that will allow Switch games to be played.
The Nintendo emulator is back
It was expected. Although the original project has disappeared due to pressure from Nintendo, the machinery of the community of players and developers was going to continue fighting to have a new solution. And so it has been. It didn't take even a week for us to have new software capable of running Switch backups, and its name is water.
On the project's website they describe it as "built by and for the community", making it clear that more than a program it is a revolutionary movement. And the emulation of platforms is unstoppable and the right to research is non-negotiable.
The fine line between what is legal and what is illegal will continue to exist, but that will not prevent the curiosity of many from being extinguished. This is how Suyu was born, which phonetically speaking sounds like “sue-you”, which in English would be something like “sue you”, in a clear reference to Nintendo's legal actions. Is about a collaborative project in which an entire community enriches the source code, so there is no defined owner or person responsible as such. It is a living project with a single mission, to continue the path left by the missing Yuzu.
Download Suyu
At the moment, the software is available for Windows and Linux, and as always, it is not functional until the user installs the necessary files (Nintendo Switch Keys). These files are the responsibility of the user, so the project does not provide support of any kind for these files.
Can Nintendo sue Suyu?
Taking into account that Suyu works in the same way as Yuzu, Nintendo could attack it with the same fundamentals and close the project in a matter of hours, so we will see how popular the software becomes and to what extent it reaches the ears of the Japanese giant . Although we have no doubt that you are already aware of the situation.
And, if Nintendo did not tremble when it came to taking down a website with a version of the NES Zelda that can be played online, this project, which also seeks to challenge the company, could fall in a matter of seconds. We'll see how the story develops.
