Since those internal documents were leaked in which the next movements of xbox hardware, we already knew that a portable console was at least on Microsoft's list of possible projects. Well, it seems that the idea is in progress, and not only the first rumors arrive, but even Phil Spencer himself fantasizes about her.
The portable Xbox according to the head of Xbox
In an interview conducted by Polygon, the director of Xbox commented how much he likes the popular format of the moment, miniature PCs in ultraportable format. He has been able to try almost all of them, with the ASUS ROG Ally, the Lenovo Legion Go and the Steam deck. However, according to him they all fail in the same way, and that is that they fail to offer the Xbox experience.
The Xbox experience is for Spencer the be able to continue playing with the saved game you left on the console or PC, to be able to enjoy a menu similar to the Xbox dashboard and be able to count on games installed on the device itself. This technically wouldn't be too complicated, as a redesign of the Windows Xbox app would be enough for everything to work just as you imagine.
But the idea seems to go the other way, and what they are looking for is to have their own hardware. This is something that is quite surprising considering the commitment to cloud gaming that they have been developing for several years, but it would still continue to be another pillar within the Xbox ecosystem. Especially now that Nintendo is preparing the Switch 2 and PlayStation is also supposedly exploring a PS Vita-style portable.
Rumors say it's in the works.
At the same time, one of the most reliable leakers in the world of boxing, Jez Corden, has commented on his podcast that Xbox is developing a portable console which will not depend on cloud games, but will allow the installation of the games locally to play without the need for an internet connection.
The details unfortunately ended there, but at least they are tremendously useful if we take into account Phil Spencer's statements.
What would your perfect portable Xbox be like?
A portable Xbox would be something especially interesting. The technology that exists today would allow us to play AAA games in a reasonable way, but if there is something that we would be interested in seeing, it is an easy-to-use interface that avoids the use of an on-screen keyboard, something that is especially annoying on all consoles with Windows 11 that are on the market.
An interface designed to navigate in the same way we do on Xbox Series X would be ideal, so we'll see if they can find the right adjustment layer to make the experience as Xbox as possible.
