El P40 Pro It was released a couple of weeks ago along with its two brothers, the P40 and the P40 Pro+. The three terminals land in the Huawei catalog with the mission of continuing to perpetuate a family of phones, the P range, especially designed for photography lovers. But what else does it offer? what are their strengths and weaknesses?
On video: 40 things about the P40 Pro
The best and worst of the P40 Pro
When I published the first impressions of the P40 Pro, I invited you to stay tuned for our next article to see if these feelings were maintained or not over the days. Although I have already told you in the video above the 40 things you should know about the terminal, it does not hurt to close its review with a new reflection, two weeks later, on its strengths and weaknesses.
The best of the phone

- His photographic capabilities are more than up to the task.. Huawei does not disappoint in this regard, proving once again that he is one of the greats in this league. Its main sensor complies in practically all situations (perhaps in bright settings it is somewhat overexposed and in others it raises saturation a bit), but the improvement compared to the P30 is noticeable. Its 5x telephoto lens yields fantastic detail and even the wide angle (which is not usually the strong point of any phone) manages to convince. Also enjoy a quite convincing bokeh (portrait) effect and a very good night mode, although you will find that sometimes it will not even be necessary with the good performance of automatic shooting. You can see sample photos in the video.
- Kirin 990 is a beast. Does anyone still doubt Huawei's capabilities when it comes to creating processors? Kirin 990 is a clear example of how well the Asian firm does things in this field, with a tremendously responsive, capable and firm chip that moves the phone at will without lag or any problem.
- Its construction is elegant and solid. The belief that only Apple could make quality phones is long gone. This P40 Pero is very well built, with a tremendously elegant matte back (its greyish color is quite attractive, even more so live) and a great feeling of solidity in the hand. It also grips quite well, because it could be said that it is a rather narrow phone, which you can handle with one hand.
- OLED borderless display at 90 Hz. The panel of this P40 Pro offers a fantastic viewing experience, with vibrant colors (which you can also manage in its settings, customization is extensive), a fairly good brightness and also extra smoothness provided by a 90 Hz refresh rate In that sense, looking at the phone is a pleasure.
- Enjoy wireless charging and fast charging. Something that I could not test in the first contact was the charging / autonomy experience. The smartphone that performs well in terms of battery (but without anything remarkable with its day and a half of endurance) has 27W wireless charging (not bad) and 40W fast cable charging that are very efficient and comfortable to use.
The worst of the phone

- Celia is very green. When the new members of the P40 family were introduced, Celia, Huawei's new voice assistant, was also announced. Unfortunately this system is light years from Google Assistant or Siri. She fails in the answers, she often does not understand what is being said to her and I have even found myself surprised by her unexpected outburst without having summoned it. Better not use it.
- 8 GB of RAM and Full HD+ are fine, but not for a flagship at this price. This is the usual story, do we need more than 8 GB for a good mobile experience? Of course not. Should this phone have offered more than 8 GB though? Evidently. There are currently cheaper phones that already reach 12 GB, so the offer of the P40 Pro being a flagship and having the price it has (999 euros) feels scarce. Same case with the screen resolution: when we talk about the most important phone of the season for Huawei, we have to wait (and ask for) a little more, something that we could also apply (to a lesser extent, yes) to the refresh rate.
- No Google, it doesn't work. Huawei is doing everything in its power to try to compensate for the lack of Google services and has even provided a direct link for us to download the APKs of a lot of apps that we would look for in the Play Store, but it's not enough. Not having the Maps, the mail manager, the Chrome or Drive web browser can become a major impediment for many users, who will have to be very sure that they can live without these solutions if they decide to bet on the P40 Pro.
