How to remove the muted bell icon on iPhone 15 Pro

iPhone 15 Pro bell icon

With the arrival of new iPhone 15 Pro, Apple has introduced the new action button with which you can do much more than activate vibration mode with one click. This programmable button is capable of performing different tasks depending on how we configure it, so the classic vibration switch has disappeared forever. And this has implied certain changes that could visually bother some users.

How to know if the iPhone is silent

Before, with the switch to activate the vibration mode, you just had to look at the side of the phone to see if the orange tab was showing. With that detail, we quickly knew that the phone was silent, however, with the new button this colorful indicator has disappeared.

With the idea that you can still know if your phone is silent or not at a glance, Apple has introduced an icon that is placed next to the clock from the home screen, and which displays a muted bell the moment you activate silent mode.

The problem with this icon is that it takes up extra space on the screen, right next to the Dynamic Island, and so many elements do not seem to appeal to users who were used to a cleaner and more minimalist screen.

How to remove the bell icon

The good news is that this icon can be hidden. Apple has introduced a new setting in system preferences from which you can disable the appearance of this icon. And to do so, it is as simple as following the following steps:

  • Go to Settings on your phone.
  • Go to the Sounds and vibrations section.
  • Below the Silent Mode option, you'll find the new “Show in status bar” setting.
  • Deactivate it to make the bell disappear.

With that change, the silent bell will disappear from the main menu, so to know if your phone is in vibrate mode or not, you will have to pull down the control center bar to see if the Silent icon is activated.

Why can't I find the option on my iPhone 15?

The function of making the bell icon disappear is only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and this has a quick explanation. These two models are the only ones that have an action button, hence it makes no sense to include the function in a device that has a vibration switch.

So now you know, whether it bothers you or not, at least you are now aware that the bell can be disabled from the home screen, although it will be something that only owners of an iPhone 15 Pro will be able to do. Good luck if you are one of them !

Apple could improve the indication

The action of placing a muted bell icon may not be the most original method that Apple has used in its software. The giant adds something more original and striking, perhaps, some type of signage on the Dynamic Island, some kind of colored halo that surrounds the dynamic island and with which you can see at a glance that the phone is silent. We'll see if Apple takes note.
