OPPO Find X2 Pro, the high-end is no longer a matter of a few

OPPO FIND X2 PRO

Our protagonist today is possibly, and without risk of being wrong, one of the great phones of this 2020. And yet, I'm afraid not everyone will give it the attention it deserves. Because? Well, because it is neither an iPhone, nor a Huawei nor a Samsung. But, hey, it has nothing to envy them. Let me tell you why.

A round phone in (almost) everything

OPPO has managed to surprise me and for good. It is not that I did not have confidence in the brand -up to now its work has been quite good since it arrived in Spain-, but I must admit that I did not expect it to be ready to make the leap into a segment as tough and demanding as the high-end.

The first great success of the telephone is undoubtedly at the level of design. The smartphone is tremendously attractive, it feels quality in the hand, with a solid construction and a very good finish. The model that we have analyzed is black, with a ceramic-type finish (it is not glass) and has almost negligible waves that give it a different touch to sight and touch -well, and also in the earAlthough you will have to discover that in the video that you have at the beginning of this article.

It is a large and rather heavy phone, yes, so it is not suitable for those who want a precisely compact terminal.

Large proportions bring with them a large screen, of course. This Find X2 Pro enjoys a 6,7-inch AMOLED-type panel with QHD+ resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. If smartphones at 90 HZ already seemed fluid and smooth to you, you can't imagine how pleasant it is to handle this equipment. The brightness is also very high (it has a high brightness mode) and the colors are fantastic, making looking at photos or consuming videos a real joy, even more so when accompanied, as in this case, by good sound with Dolby Atmos.

The curvature of the screen is something that will also draw your attention a lot. It is very pronounced, so much so that you can even see an image on the sides, which makes the feeling of spaciousness much greater and the finish more premium.

At the performance level, nothing to object to. Is a little beast that can with everything It has the latest Qualcomm processor (the Snapdragon 865), 12 gigabytes of RAM and, in the case of the model we have tested, 512 GB of memory that, although it cannot be expanded because it does not have a microSD slot, is more than enough even for the heaviest users.

The machinery is also very well understood with the software. The terminal makes use of the ColorOS layer (on Android 10) that summarizes a fantastic work at the level of cleanliness and functionality. Perhaps it does not reach the level of what OnePlus offers, but it is dangerously close with an environment that is not overloaded and above all with a high level of customization. A clear example can be found, for example, when it comes to controlling the parameters of the screen with options of all kinds (from switching between 120 and 60 Hz automatically or deciding for ourselves to improvements in the video display, going through the adjustment of the autumn depending on ambient lighting).

A photographic level you can put very few faults. The phone has three cameras with which you will have, above all, a very versatile system. On its back are a 48 MP main sensor, a 48 MP wide-angle sensor and a 13 MP telephoto lens with 5 optical magnifications, 10x hybrid and up to 60x digital.

The photos are very good: there is a good job In the color treatment, in the definition, the dynamic range and its night mode is quite wealthy. As you can see in the video that you have at the beginning of this article (where I show you a good number of examples of photos taken with the Find X2 Pro), the general result is quite interesting.

I also liked the telephoto performance both applying the 5 magnifications and the 10 magnifications (the 60 magnifications are more a question of marketing than something really useful, so we can save your assessment). Until macro mode digital, which is activated automatically when you get very close to an object, works better than the dedicated sensors of some other phones -for the most curious, I will point out that there are two ways to take advantage of it, through the aforementioned automatic mode or through the Expert mode, where performance is superior, cutting through the 48 wide-angle sensor.

And as for the selfies, same sensations: good shots, through a sensor, integrated in screen, 32 MP, although they are not the best on the market either.

I can't stop talking about her battery and above all its fantastic fast charging. On a phone with this pants, Such a refresh rate and this brightness, you will think that the battery is consumed in a breath and well, it is not that either. It is true that it does not reach the autonomy of other smartphones that we have analyzed here, but you can reach the end of the day with dignity (and perhaps even the beginning of the next) with its module of 4.250 mAh if you don't use end of the telephone.

The key, however, is in its load. Inside the box (as it should be) comes a 65W SuperVooc charger which is sheer madness. In a matter of half an hour you can have your phone charged to 100% -it's even addictive to see how the percentage on the screen goes up- making its need to charge a lesser evil. This does not solve your battery on the move, but if the plugs are not a problem, having to charge it will be the least of your worries.

couldn't be perfect

I have told you all the virtues of this Find X2 Pro but it is not a perfect phone and it also suffers from certain problems that you should know about.

The first (and for me most important) is the curvature of the edges of your screen. I declare myself an unconditional fan of panels with curved edges but in this case its virtue is also a condemnation. The accentuation of this characteristic causes me to have had more accidental touches with this smartphone than with others and that makes me uncomfortable. I suppose it is something personal and closely related to the way I hold it or handle it on the screen, but it is very likely that you will also suffer from it with this device compared to other phones whose screens are not "so curved" on its sides.

OPPO FIND X2 PRO

I should also point out that when viewing light colored images it can sometimes be seen true shading in the curvature fruit of its nature. It is curious because this "halo effect" does not occur, for example, around the hole on the screen that it has for the front camera -which is usually the Achilles heel of many current phones-, but it can be seen if we have a white background, for example and we tilt the phone to look at it in profile - looking at it from the front it is not appreciated.

He spoke quite well of the camera and I will not fault here regarding its performance. The problem I have is with the module itself and how much it protrudes from the back. Such is the situation that having it on a face-up table and interacting with its screen is often uncomfortable due to the excessive "limping" caused by rear shock -again, in the video that you have at the beginning of this article, you will be able to appreciate it much better than you expected. I speak to you. And that is not to mention how exposed the structure itself is to scratches or blows.

OPPO FIND X2 PRO

This problem, and the one I mentioned earlier about edges, led me to use (for the first time in my life) the plastic cover that comes by default (purely as a courtesy) inside the box. It's a real attack on the design of the smartphone, but it helps a lot, attenuating both startle and accidental touches to the edges.

Two minor absences that I must also highlight: the lack of a 3,5 mm connector (we are increasingly used to not missing it, but it should be noted) and the support for a single SIM card, something a bit unusual Coming from a Chinese manufacturer.

Is it worth your purchase?

Well, the truth is that if the issue of the curved screen that I am telling you about is not a problem for you, absolutely other. The Find X2 Pro is one of the best phones that have passed through my hand so far in 2020 and as I told you at the beginning of this analysis, it has been a real surprise for me.

OPPO FIND X2 PRO

¿His biggest problem? Well, you have it with himself. Let me explain with this hypothetical situation: If right now you had 1.200 euros (which is what this phone costs) to spend on a phone, what would you buy: an iPhone 11 Pro, a Huawei P40 Pro, a Samsung Galaxy S20 or this OPPO? Possibly the Find X2 Pro is the last option that comes to mind because OPPO still does not have enough entity as a brand in our market for many to be willing to test and spend that much money.

I think a tighter price would have helped to become that high-end "killer" that many are still waiting for and would have helped the terminal to place itself in a better position of consideration, capturing the attention it deserves. Because the work for it, of course, is done. Very well done.
