OPPO Find X3 Pro, review: the microscope phone

El OPPO FIND X3 PRO It can stand out for different aspects, but without a doubt what most attracts attention is its design. It is difficult to stand out today in this regard, but with the back of this terminal they have achieved an extremely beautiful phone. I will tell you the details of its design and my experience after a few weeks with Suso.

OPPO Find X3 Pro, video analysis

An elegant design like few others

The part front of the OPPO Find X3 Pro at first will not attract your attention. And not because they haven't been able to do a great job of making the most of it or because the screen offers a bad experience viewing all kinds of content, although I'll talk about that later, but because it's not too different from what can be seen today on day at the high end.

However, the rear is another story. Here OPPO has achieved a frankly striking finish in which the upper left corner stands out, where the main camera module is located.

While other manufacturers opt for an encapsulation with a square, rectangular, traffic light or even circular shape and all of them generating a step with respect to the casing; here OPPO what he has done is integrate it directly making the protrusion gain continuity with the same.

It is much better explained in photos, but it is only when you have it in your hand that it is appreciated and valued even more. So much so that I admit that it had been a long time since a terminal gave me such a good feeling as soon as I took it out of the box and took it in my hand.

With all this, OPPO's proposal not only stands out for these design lines, but also for the quality of materials and good construction of the same. Everything is perfectly finished and they show that it is a high-end phone.

Finally, tell you that it is also very comfortable in the hand due to its weight and size. Because despite being generous, it doesn't feel as bulky as other recent proposals.

The only negative point that could be put is the glossy finish, a magnet for fingerprints. Although there is a version, it is very attractive matte frosted glass for those who do not like these glosses. Although, let's admit that in the end we all carry these types of phones with a case. One that is included and that, as you can see in the image above, has a matte black finish that I personally like a lot.

QHD+ resolution and AMOLED LTPO technology

OPPO is part of the same group where other manufacturers such as OnePlus are. Why am I saying this? Well, because they share many advances and one of them is on the screen.

El OPPO FIND X3 PRO integrates a AMOLED type panel with LTPO technology for a more efficient and dynamic management of the refresh rate that reaches up to the 120 Hz. In this way, the operating system adapts it according to the content that is being played and that helps to improve the management of the battery itself.

In terms of color representation, brightness, contrast and zero inconvenience tactile response during these days of use. The quality of the screen that is capable of supporting 10-bit images allows you to enjoy all kinds of content with great quality.

On a day-to-day basis that translates into a pleasant experience regardless of the use you make of the terminal. It does not matter if you are viewing operating system options, games, consulting any internet website or accessing social networks or video platforms.

In addition, as usual in terminals of this range and many others with Android, there are options that allow you to adjust the calibration of the screen with different profiles and color temperatures. So, as soon as you investigate for a while, you will surely find the option that most convinces you.

Regarding the tactile response to gestures and in applications such as games, where greater precision and speed are required, well, the same. The device works very well without any problem.

In summary, at the screen level it seems to me a great device that has little or nothing to envy from other proposals. There may be some users who find the colors still a bit saturated, but considering that it is even capable of offering QHD resolution, what more do you really need in a panel of this type, of this size and capable of offering up to 120 Hz? Well that, little or nothing.

Fast and accurate biometric security, but with a small but

Mobile devices have long offered three access options. On the one hand, the classic pattern or alphanumeric code that the operating system implements, and on the other, biometric security measures.

In this case we have facial recognition and fingerprint reader. The first is fast, agile and very convenient. Because you basically pick up the phone, the screen wakes up, and before you see it on, it's unlocked and ready to go.

However, the fingerprint reader does, to my taste, have the same problem as other devices and it is not precisely any type of problem in fingerprint recognition. The drawback is none other than its position below the screen.

In terminals as generous as this OPPO Finde X3 Pro that is in a such a low position means that you are not always able to put the track well and hence the failures in recognition. Because when you do grab it with two hands or in a way that allows you not to force your big toe to read the fingerprint, unlocking is immediate.

So, with outstanding performance, my only but is that: the position of the reader. It is true that you adapt and the problem is minimized, but you have to do it and depending on which device you come from, it may cost you more or less. The good thing is that you activate facial recognition and 90% of the time you forget about the problem.

ColorOS and all the power of a very TOP hardware

The most boring section to analyze in any high-end device is none other than performance. Unless the customization layer mounted on Android is a real disaster, the truth is that the experience is as satisfactory as with any other device in the same range.

In this case, the OPPO Finde X3 Pro mounts the latest of the latest: a Snapdragon 888, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Result? An outstanding experience.

It doesn't matter if it's just using the system, games, photo editing applications, text editors, task managers, social networks,... it doesn't matter what you do because it will do it well and with ease.

So I will not bore you with data or Benchmark that rather contribute little, because the possible differences with other devices with the same hardware will be minimal, sometimes above and sometimes below. So it's not worth going on. You are left with the idea that it will perform very well and that's it.

OPPO and its fast charge

Autonomy is an important section in current mobile devices. As we use them more and more every day, the truth is that having the maximum number of hours of use possible is ideal.

Here OPPO is not going to break any kind of record, but if well lasts a day and a half of use normal, when you push a little more you can always resort to its fast charging system that is really fast.

With Power 65W, To give you an idea: from 0% to 50% takes about 10 minutes and full charge takes up to 26 minutes. In other words, a real madness for which even making intensive use of the device you will not have to worry if you always carry its charger with you, because when you have a coffee you charge the battery more than enough to last the day.

Dolby Atmos sound

That the OPPO Find X3 Pro support Dolby sound Atmos does not imply that the quality and experience will be similar or similar to that of other devices such as sound bars.

What it indicates is that if you use it with good headphones or with a cable via a USB C adapter, wireless because they do not have a 3,5mm connector, the experience will be very satisfactory. But basically with the two integrated speakers we can only say that it is remarkable.

The sound is not bad at all for playing some occasional multimedia content, nor for the calls themselves, but don't expect great things. I understand that there will be users who give a lot of importance to this aspect, but I always use my phones in silent mode and when I want to listen to something I use headphones, because it is not a problem for me that they skimp on quality here.

However, they do not sound bad at all. It's just not going to be like external audio sound with bigger speakers etc.

a microscope camera

We come to the section that, frankly, always interests me the most in any high-end terminal: its camera systems for both photography and video.

Here I have to admit that OPPO surprises, although it is not something very striking seeing its own history with telescopic cameras that are hidden, etc. And the reason is none other than the integration of a microscope camera.

That is, OPPO introduces the following camera array on the Find X3 Pro:

  • 50 MP f1.8 main sensor with OIS (optical image stabilization system)
  • 50 MP f2.2 ultra-wide angle sensor
  • 13 MP f2.4 telephoto lens with 5X hybrid and up to 20X digital zoom option
  • 3 MP sensor with microscopic lens with f3.0 aperture

Of course, you read that you have a camera capable of showing microscopic details and the first thing you do is go crazy taking pictures of all kinds of things around you. From the fabric of a sweatshirt to a piece of carrot, blueberries, the wall, the hair, the skin… basically you lack things to be able to photograph with such a level of detail.

The problem? Well, beyond the initial curiosity, the truth is that later you wonder why a camera of this type really is and not a better telephoto lens.

Because the cameras of the OPPO Find X3 Pro I admit that they are very versatile and capable to obtain very interesting results, even in video where it is not always easy for most Android terminals. But having improved some lenses and letting the experiment that is the microscope camera surely would have provided more value for the user.

After testing their cameras and seeing in all kinds of scenarios it performs very well, although in low light scenes it sometimes fails and HDR can be a bit inconsistent at specific moments. In addition, the camera application is very complete, so much so that it integrates an extra video mode called movie.

This movie mode is similar to the professional video application of the Sony Xperia or Filmic Pro and allows video enthusiasts record content in logarithmic format. In other words, a flat profile that later in post-production gives much more room to correct the color and even recover details of lights and shadows. Something interesting to get the most out of the sensor.

The stabilization system works very well recording camera in hand. So I admit that it is already one of the Android terminals that I like the most for video recording.

Honestly, having put a better zoom that would allow those 5X optics and not hybrids would have rounded off a terminal that in itself already likes a lot.

A great phone in the OPPO line

The OPPO Find X3 Pro is a very interesting phone, very attractive at the design level and with features that have nothing to envy from the rest. It is a great proposal from the manufacturer who is weighed down by this excess of innovation that leads the brand to make decisions that for most users contribute very little.

However, if you are looking for something different and with a design that makes a difference, even if you risk taking it without a cover, the truth is that right now I can't think of a better option than this. It is, as I say, a very attractive terminal that It meets everything that is expected of a high-end. Of course, its price is not too convincing.
