OPPO X3 Lite, a great competitor in the mid-range

The mid-range mobile phone market is becoming increasingly complex for manufacturers. These days, there are big bets for all types of users, who make their decisions based on the smallest details, like a bit more battery life, a larger screen, or similar features. In this respect, the phone I want to talk about today performs very well, leaving a good impression and a pretty well-rounded experience . Today, I'll tell you what I thought of the OPPO X3 Lite in this review.

Elegant and conservative design

In the physical aspect section, this OPPO Find X3 Lite does not arrive to revolutionize the mid-range market with some innovative aspect. What the manufacturer is betting on with this phone is for a design that incorporates certain high-end features as other bets already do and, in this way, have more premium finishes for any user.

This smartphone has a subtle gradient on its back that will be more or less pronounced depending on the angle. It will be available in three different colors : silver (which is actually a gradient of white, blue, and purple), blue, or black, which is the one we tested.

On the back, as I mentioned, we have this gradient effect, along with curved edges for a better grip. Then, on the upper back, there's the vertical camera module housing the four lenses and the flash. Along the edges, we have the typical buttons, the USB-C port, the speaker, and the 3.5mm audio jack . Personally, I'd like to see all manufacturers adopt a dual-speaker system, but oh well, at least the headphone jack is there for those who keep asking for it.

And then on the front, we have a 6,4″ AMOLED panel with FullHD+ resolution . It's a screen with good color reproduction, good viewing angles, and the usual contrast we expect from panels with this technology, which I can't fault at all. Furthermore, to provide a smoother experience, and as we're used to seeing on most phones, OPPO incorporates a 90Hz refresh rate , which, while not the highest on the market, currently seems sufficient to give it that extra edge over other options.

One minor drawback I can mention about this screen is its raised edge . If you've seen or read any of my reviews, you'll know I'm quite critical of this feature, not only because I think it detracts from the tactile experience, but also because no tempered glass screen protector will truly protect these edges in the event of a fall. However, if you use a case like the one included in the box, you'll avoid any unnecessary scares.

On this panel, we find its single front-facing camera, which is responsible for the facial recognition unlocking system , supported by the fingerprint reader also hidden under the panel. Both unlocking systems work incredibly fast and haven't given me any trouble at all. It's true that the facial recognition isn't the most advanced on the market, but you can't expect more from a mid-range phone these days. Although, on the other hand, I would have preferred the fingerprint reader to be positioned a little higher.

As I was saying a few lines ago, it is an elegant phone without many extravagances, especially with this dark finish. A smartphone with sober finishes but which, with the exception of a couple of details, gives us a fairly round experience (in the physical section) while we are using it.

Enough power for what you need

Now let me, once having presented this OPPO mobile from the outside, let's see what it hides under its panel. And it is that, once again, we have a set that will sound a lot to us:

  • Processor Snapdragon 765G
  • 8 GB of RAM L
  • 128 GB storage UFS 2.1 (no possibility to add a microSD card)
  • Battery 4.300 mAh with fast charge 65W SuperVOOC

A series of components that, as you can imagine, make their use a delight no matter what we do. Whether we want to use it to browse social networks, watch YouTube videos or any day-to-day task, or even to play powerful games, the phone performs very well. It may be that if we put the quality of these titles of great weight in ultra we will find some slight lag but of course, we must not forget that we are dealing with a mid-range phone. This great performance together with that 90 Hz rate makes my experience testing it, as I was saying, very good.

All this positive experience wouldn't be possible if the software wasn't well optimized. In this case, as with the rest of the manufacturer's phones, we have ColorOS 11.1 running on top of Android 11. While this skin isn't the purest on the market, it works very well and offers some interesting features for users who enjoy customization.

As for the battery, if you use this phone normally, its 4.300 mAh will easily get you through the day, or at least that's been my experience. However, on those days when I took a lot of photos, recorded videos, or played a bit longer games, I had to make a pit stop to recharge the battery. And here, OPPO has done an incredible job by incorporating its 65W SuperVOOC fast charging system , which fully charges the battery in about 30 minutes. So, with a simple 10-minute charge, I was able to get through the day without any problems on those occasions.

And now it's time to move on to the camera, which, for many, is the most important factor when buying a new smartphone. The OPPO Find X3 Lite comes with a total of 5 lenses in its chassis:

  • Main camera 64MP, with f/1.7 aperture and a viewing angle of 80°
  • Ultra wide angle camera 8MP, with f/2.2 aperture and a viewing angle of 119°
  • macro camera 2MP and with f/2.4 aperture
  • monkey camera 2MP, with f/2.4 aperture to enhance portrait mode
  • Front camera for 32MP selfie, f/2.4 aperture and a viewing angle of 85°

Undoubtedly, a fairly complete set but it is not perfect since, as you can see, it does not have any type of telephoto lens. However, the digital zoom solution recently offered by some manufacturers is more than correct thanks to its post-processing system and this story repeats itself on this mobile.

When lighting conditions are favorable, the image quality from all lenses is very good. Of course, the main lens stands out the most , producing vibrant colors and excellent sharpness.

The wide-angle lens is perhaps the least impressive, exhibiting greater contrast in complex scenes and somewhat paler colors. The macro lens is average compared to what many other manufacturers offer.

I'm really impressed by the high quality of the digital zoom and image processing system, as well as the front camera , which offers good sharpness and color reproduction. However, all the lenses tend to overexpose images slightly, something that can be easily fixed by tapping the screen and lowering the exposure level a bit.

And when the light falls, well, it was to be expected that the quality of all the lenses would drop. The colors are no longer as accurate as we see during the day, the noise appears and, although we have the night mode that will slightly improve the results, it becomes somewhat cumbersome to use because it forces us to always expose the images for 7 seconds.

Great bet for the mid-range

Something I haven't mentioned yet about the OPPO Find X3 Lite is its price. You can currently get this phone for around €369 in its only configuration: 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

A good option in this price range, especially for those looking for a more understated alternative with a great user experience, a battery that, while not the best, has spectacular fast charging, and a camera system that delivers decent results. Plus, as you can see from its name, it's a smartphone that's 5G compatible.
