5G connectivity for everyone

I've been testing the new Realme 8 5G for a few days now, and I have to say its raison d'être is simply to offer 5G connectivity at a groundbreaking price that anyone can afford. While it's true there are different configurations, being able to connect to these incredibly fast networks from a phone that costs less than €200 is certainly remarkable.

The only drawback for now will be that in your area and your operator offers 5G connectivity, but if this is the case and being able to access information quickly is what interests you the most or being able to quickly share data with other users, then it is clear that this phone could be the ideal candidate.

Even so, it would not be fair to value it only for this characteristic. Despite being a cheap terminal, it offers some other additional details that you might find interesting.

Sober design and good finishes

Low-middle-range mobile phones have never excelled in terms of design, but that does not mean that devices with good finishes and elegant aesthetics cannot be offered.

That's my personal opinion of the Realme 8 5G. This smartphone doesn't surprise with its design or attract the attention of everyone you pass, but it is true that it's very well made, reaching the minimum level that is now expected of practically any brand and model of phone.

With a blue finish, the materials aren't exactly premium, but it feels nice in the hand . And most importantly, at least for me, it's a phone that feels comfortable in terms of both size and weight.

There is also the issue of the keypad, easily accessible when you hold it and other aspects such as having a 3,5mm Jack connector that is always interesting for the multimedia experience and taking into account that many of those who do not invest excessively on a phone they probably won't on wireless headsets either.

In summary, physically it is an attractive phone, although there will always be opinions of all tastes. So rate yourself based on the images.

A 90Hz screen is a gift

Finding a screen capable of offering a 90Hz refresh rate on a phone with these features, or rather, this price, is a real gift and a very pleasant surprise when you see how much the experience changes when navigating menus and other interfaces compared to one with only 60Hz.

Logically, having said refresh rate is not the only important thing in a panel, but in general terms the truth is that the screen used here by Realme performs very well. With nice colors, good level of brightness, contrast and saturation.

I'm aware it's not the best screen on the market, but there are other options that cost more and offer the same or even a worse solution, resulting in a less enjoyable experience with the system, games, and especially multimedia content like TV shows and movies. So, the screen on this Realme 8 5G is quite good considering what kind of product it is.

From the sound only to say that it is correct. It has not surprised me and it is true that at maximum volume it distorts slightly, but it is not a drama because I do not think that most turn the volume up all the time. And when you want to enjoy more of the sound section, it will be better to connect headphones, wireless or traditional cable, and that's it.

MediaTek is no longer what you thought

The performance of any entry-level or lower-middle range phone is always a matter of concern. And it is not because the user who bets on an economic solution does not understand that he will have to assume certain commitments, but because sometimes it is even worse than it should be.

This time around, the Realme 8 5G opts for a MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor , which isn't what you might initially expect, and that's a bit of a drawback. The manufacturer has certainly stepped up its game, and the truth is, the performance is good across the board. It's not comparable to the latest Qualcomm processors we see in the high-end range, but you'll be able to do everything you need.

You'll even be able to play games on this Realme 8 5G. Loading times for more demanding titles will increase, but you won't lose any of your leisure time if you want to use it during those moments of free time.

Furthermore, another advantage of the latest MediaTek processors is their optimized energy consumption, which is important here due to the extra power consumed by 5G. Thus, along with a 5.000 mAh battery , I personally haven't had any problem getting a day or a day and a half of use out of the box.

As always, everything will depend on the use of each one, but neither stands out positively nor negatively. It is a correct phone that complies in a section as important as autonomy.

In photography it is not where it stands out

However, if you are a user who cares especially about the photographic section, I am afraid to tell you that it does not stand out here. In order to offer certain features and maintain an attractive price, you have to cut back and it seems that it has really done so with the camera.

The Realme 8 5G offers a triple main camera, but of the three sensors, only the 48MP one is any good . Then there's a monochrome sensor and a macro sensor, which are of little use or have little impact on the overall picture.

Examples of photos at 1x, 2x and 5x cropping on the 48MP sensor

Even so, considering the camera, in good light conditions you can take some interesting photos, but the processing doesn't play much in your favor either and they end up being photos that don't attract much attention. But as we said, this is not the real reason why you should bet on the realme 8 5G.

The front camera is a little better, although it is not that you are going to hallucinate with the results capable of offering.

an internet phone

As I mentioned at the beginning, and I'll say it again, the Realme 8 5G is a phone designed to take full advantage of 5G and its benefits in terms of coverage and data access speed. That should be the main reason why you, or any other user, should choose this device.

In the rest of the section there are lights and shadows, because aspects such as the fluidity of the screen are very good, but the photographic performance detracts from a product that cannot be asked for much more for its price.

And, taking into account the current promotion until May 20th, at 179 euros for the 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage model and 229 euros for the 6GB plus 128GB model, it is practically unrivaled.
