It has happened to us too. You go to the app store of your Amazon Fire Stick device, search for “HBO Max” and… Where is HBO Max? We do not know if it is a licensing problem in Spain or if the application is not translated for Amazon streaming devices, but today, we cannot install one official HBO Max app on our Fire TV Stick devices from European stores. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible. In the following lines we will tell you everything you need to know to play the contents of your HBO Max membership on your television with Fire TV. Luckily, there are three different methods to do it, so you can choose the way that seems easiest to you.
Why isn't the HBO Max app on Fire TV?
We Europeans do not currently have the official HBO Max application for Amazon Fire TV. However, the app exists and is available to customers who have one of these devices on United States. We do not know if the reason why this application has not reached our country is due to Amazon, Warner or both. However, if we were to blame someone, it would most likely be another blunder by HBO Nordic, which is still the HBO affiliate that controls the European terrain and has already shown more than once that they are not as competent as they should be.
For whatever reason, the problem is that you are not going to be able to watch HBO Max on your Fire TV Stick unless you resort to a few tricks. If you want to solve this problem, we leave you three methods so that you can install the app on your Amazon dongle while there is no official solution.
Method 1: From a web browser
Without going around the bush, the interesting thing here is that, since HBO Max is a global service, the American application will work with your account in Spain. You can get this app in three different ways and you will get the same result in all of them. In this first section you will learn install it directly from the American Amazon app store.
To install the American HBO Max app on your Fire TV Stick by this first method, you will not need the device at the moment. Just get a computer where you can access the web version of Amazon. Log in with the same account you use on the Fire TV Stick and follow the steps below followed:
- Go to the top right corner, where it says your name followed by "Accounts and lists».
- Go to «My account»
- Under the icons, locate the section Digital content and devices and click on «Content and Devices».
- In this new menu, locate the new top bar that just opened and click on «Preferences».
- Click again on the section «Country/Region Settings».
- Give to "change» and fill in the fields setting as country United States and placing an address of said country. Our recommendation in these cases is that you use a hotel address, but if you want, you can also use the Fake Address Copy application. However, it is more advisable to search for a hotel on Google Maps and copy the address in a matter of seconds.

- Without leaving the browser, now you can download HBO Max right from there. Find the app in the store and click 'Get App'.
Once these steps are done, restart your Amazon Fire TV Stick and, once it connects to the server, the application will have been downloaded automatically. done that, follow these steps:

- Check that everything works correctly.
- Revert region settings that we have done in the previous steps to replace your real home address (steps 1 to 7).

This process is currently the most reliable of all, since it is the only method with which we will be able to install the app through the official Amazon store. However, there are other alternatives that we will tell you about below in the following lines that require unlocking the device.
Returning your account to the country of origin is an important step
This method that we have just taught you is the one that works best to install HBO Max on your Fire TV. You will download the official application, that is, the one that the company has compiled for Amazon's Fire TV Stick. However, you have to make sure to do the 12 steps that we have mentioned in the previous block.
It will not only work for you to convert your Amazon account to a United States profile. If you don't later revert the account back to your home country, all your digital purchases, like Kindle books, will remain inactive. This is due to rights issues in certain countries. Therefore, do not end the tutorial until you have reconfigured your account with the region you had at the beginning. If you want to make sure everything works, go through the first XNUMX steps, make sure you can sign in to HBO Max without any issues, and then go back to your browser and set up your account the way it was originally set up.
Method 2: From Downloader
Another option is to download the HBO Max app directly from a repository like APK Mirror. For this, you need several prerequisites. First of all, you must have activated the option «Install apps from unknown sources». You can do it from Settings> My Fire TV> Developer Options.
Once that step is done, go to the Amazon app store and locate the app Downloader. Now do the following:
- Enter Downloader and go to Browser.
- Inside the browser, type 'Apptoid TV'. A notice will pop up that the website wants to download an APK file. Accept and install. Apptoide TV is a alternative app store for your Fire TV Stick. However, in this second step you could also directly search for 'APK Mirror' and search for the HBO Max app without installing anything else. Of course, the Apptoide option is more interesting because it will allow you to keep the application updated on your television.
- Opens now Apptoid TV and search for the HBO Max app.
- Install it and ready. Start with your data and enjoy.
Method 3: From your mobile phone
This other step is similar to the previous one, but using our mobile phone to send the APK file of the HBO Max app for the Fire TV Stick.
- Activate the installation of applications with unknown origin on your Fire TV Stick. Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options and turn on "Install apps from unknown sources."
- On your mobile, download the HBO Max app for Android TV from the APK Mirror repository. You have it here.

Common problems when installing HBO Max on the Fire TV Stick
As long as the HBO Max app does not officially appear in the Amazon AppStore on our continent, these tricks will have to be used. However, it may happen that the trick does not work for you if you opt for the option of downloading the alternative apk.
Keep your Fire TV Stick updated to the latest version
Before starting the process, it is a good idea to update your Amazon dongle to the latest version available. To do so, follow the steps below:
- Go to 'Settings' from the Fire TV main menu.
- Select 'My Fire TV'.
- Enter now in 'About'
- Enter the 'Check for system updates' option. Wait a few seconds for the wizard to check Amazon's servers for updates for your device. If there are, accept the installation and wait a few minutes for the Fire TV to go through the process and restart.

Download the latest APK option
When downloading the app for your device, check that you are downloading the latest version of HBO Max APK for your device. Also check that you are downloading the Android TV version, not the variant for mobile phones. As a general rule, the version for Android TV should work on your Fire TV Stick, since the Amazon device also runs a version of this system inside. The only noticeable difference is that the Android TV that runs on the Fire TV is a modified version, but not enough to make standard apps stop working on it.
Check various online repositories
If the app you downloaded doesn't work for you, try another repository. If the one you downloaded from Apptoide catches you, try some of the application repositories that we are going to leave you with below:
APK Mirror
This is a trusted repository. To download the HBO Max app for your Fire TV Stick, do click on this link and you will be able to see the complete list of apps in APK format that have been recently uploaded. Ideally, try the latest version. However, if it doesn't work for you, download a slightly older version and try your luck.
